Hooked & Won!

I finally gave in and hooked my truck to a Chevy 3500 gas SRW. I drug him 8 feet, then I stopped to save him any further imbarrasment. I have a video, someone help me add it on here!

Did you hold the brake and build boost? Then let off the brake and floor it?
Just curious how you do that. Congratulations!

Thanks thanks guys. I felt soo TUFF gettin out of the truck to yank that chain off. I held the brake, and in the time I was building boost, he was floorin it ( spinning of course) then I let out, put it to the floor, and that was all she wrote, the baby was born! Ok, I just got the video up. Click this link and it should work!

pulling on dirt don't prove anything except for who has better tires. a 2500 dodge v10 hooked to me in the dirt and we just sat there spining, so we took it to the pavement and i didn't even know he was back there, even when he tried to hold the brake in it didn't slow me down. cool vid though!!!

Not necessarily... the first time we hooked, it was in soft dirt and we just spun with each other and dug 8 holes. That time we were on a well traveled road in the dirt. I dont think it is allll about traction. Driving technique plays a large roll in it as well. Maybe you would have pulled the v10 if done differently?

ive found out when pulling (on pavement) that its best not to build boost, makes it easier to break the tires loose, just put it in first and slowly slip the clutch out. Also have found out that when your hookin to a fairly even truck as yours you dont want to hold your brakes, ive seen flat spots worn into tires trying to stop the other truck.

Ok, how about for autos? Flat spots would suck! I was at Carlyle, Illinois truck pull lastnight. Wow was that something. First class was half ton trucks. A '97 dodge gas 4x4 made a full pull, and started hopping at the end and bam! driveshaft busted and hit the ground. 4 other guys broke / twisted driveshafts between the other 4 classes. One guy in a 98 24 valve literally twisted it off at the carrier bearing and they had to lift the rear end of his truck with the backhoe and take him off the track. Another guy busted his transfer case and had to back off the track. It was wild. Goes to show you HAVE TO STOP when you get to the end and your wheels arent spinning, but you have it to the floor. The torque has to go somewhere!

Been doing well. How bout yourself? Should be picking up a torque converter for me this week hopefully? I cant wait to get one, and get it installed. Should make a world of difference i think. I will be ready to put in my 215 injectors, and pull some next year then. Im going to dyno at Scheid this year whether i have anything else done by then or not. Are you coming to the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza? If so, we'll have to meet up there, and talk. So hopefully soon plans for the truck in order are:

-Torque Converter
-16 degree timing
-215 injectors

Would be awesome if i had it all done before scheid, but i doubt it. I may still be exactly like i am I dont want to go extreme with this truck. Just a pretty darn good running street truck with a stock turbo that will run maybe close to low 15's/possible high 14's through the 1/4 after D.V.'s maybe. Anyway. I guess i better get to making money hadnt i?

Eric
