Got the 96' Red Ram Back/1/4 mi. times
I promised several of the DTR Members here I would let them know when I got my 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve Ext.Cab 4X4 back from Scheid Diesel. Well,... I got it back about a week ago and to say the least, the truck runs great!
I had a chance to get over to our local dragstrip here (Coastal Plains Dragway) in Jacksonville, N.C. last week (and weekend) with our local "N.C. DTR Crew" to make some initial "shakedown" runs with it. In attendance to witness my runs were: masonic-dodge (Cris S.), PapaSmurf (Chris D.), Chris Holman, banshee (John Jr.), Unruly NFS (Keegan M.).
The best E.T. was 12.1 @ 110 MPH and the best "trap speed" run was 12.3 @ 113 MPH. Traction was a problem on ALL these runs with all four tires spinning pretty good out of the staging lane! I am going to have to go back to a "285" sized tire as these new "265"s are too small for the power I am putting down now. Also, I was going "easy" on my boost launches at the lights making sure I didn't break anything right off on the initial runs! Both Johnner and myself along with the rest of the N.C. DTR Crew feel strongly that the truck has an 11.99 or better in it on just #2 diesel! I am very pleased with the initial results and plan to get back to the drag strip very soon for more "tuning" and hopefully some high 11's!
The truck would not be where it is without the expertise and guidance of my great friends at Scheid Diesel! I want to sincerely thank Dan Scheid (Owner), Mike Wood (GM @ Effingham), J.P. Pezan (Drive-In Mgr.) Brad Ingram (Engine Technician), Adam Wendt (Engine Technician), Bruce Newlin and Eric Bozarth (Fuel Pump Technicians), Brian Koester (Transmission Technician), Chris Mayhaus (Turbo Technician), Kent Crowder along with a good deal of the support staff who did an excellent job for me on this truck!
I also owe a big thanks to Clint and Ranee Cannon, Mike Meineke and Sean Porter at "ATS Diesel Performance" for all their help on the transmission and TC!
I will keep you all posted on our progress with the truck. Chassis dyno runs to hopefully follow here soon.

It was a heck of a run. Here are a couple of them. His tires were fighting for traction for about the first 30 feet.
VIDEO HERE!!

Keegan:
Thanks alot for posting that buddy!
Now maybe some of the "naysayers" will believe it and also see that Scheid Diesel knows how to build a high performance diesel engine!
Thanks again Keegan!

Congrates John! It's been a loooong time coming, couldn't happen to a better guy IMO. I'm happy for you buddy. I know you and Scheid have done a lot to get that truck to where is today. Better times to come I'm sure.
You forgot to thank one important lady buddy.
Thanks for the video Keegan.

Congrats to my good buddy JP on his truck, and to his wife Sharon who puts up with it
. I must confess that that video give you NO clue to the power that truck has. JP spent the weekend at my house in Raleigh to help me out with a few "things" on my 12 valve. At one point we ran to the NAPA store for some parts, and I gotta tell you this truck is absolutely insane. As one would expect JP drove the truck to NAPA and "gave me a taste" of what she had
. On the way home he offered to let me drive ( now I'm thinking oh boy, this is scary), and I naturally say sure. So we switch seats and I take off easy and " get comfortable" with the truck. After a few miles of being real easy on it on the back roads we get on a "main" road.
This is where it gets fun for me!!
I am tooling along about 50MPH and this powerchoke come up on my tail pretty fast, I let JP know I am gonna "hit it"---
oh my GOD!!!! this thing burns the tires and we rocket to somewhere north of 90 in a split second. I never "floored" it, my best guess is about 3/4 throttle TOPS!!The Ford??? he is lost in a black cloud-stupid Ford owner runs up my tail again--same result!! The second time at 60 the truck burns the tires again!! This thing spins them hard enough that it leaves good black marks on the road.
Again JP, thank you for letting me drive that MONSTER, I love it. And thanks for all your help!! The sad thing is, after driving your truck mine still feels like a stocker pulling a trailer!!

Your right Mike,........I also need to give a BIG THANKS to my wife Sharon for putting up with me on all this diesel performance stuff with my trucks!
She definitely "has the patience of Jobe" when it comes to me spending time and money on these trucks! Thanks for bringing that up.

Phil:
Thanks for your kind words buddy!
You are very welcome on driving the truck! I am glad we had the opportunity to go drive the 96' together on Saturday. And you are being too "modest" on how your truck drives/runs now!
IMO, your truck has come a LONG way from where it was initially and it will only get better!
With a little more tweaking I think you are going to give Mike D. a "run for his money!"
Mike,......are you listening??????

You should have seen the "very first" run, the truck broke loose and started fish tailing. That truck is awesome and really wished that you could have made it up to VA with us John, but understand. No doubt you would have been the fastest diesel there with as sticky as the track was. That Chebby and your truck would have been one heck of a good race to watch...
John: Oh I'm listening alright.
My hope is that my buddy Phil will try hard to kick my butt at the track. There's motivation around every corner if you look hard enough. I love to see my buddies do well at the track as they love to see me do just as well.
Phil knows I'm happy for him. I've been waiting with about as much anticipation for his truck to get the go fast parts as I have for your 96 to come back from Scheid.
