First Pull, Third Place

Finally got brave enough to pull on 9/30. Trying to figure out how to upload video. It was a blast. The only down side was that I got beat by a duramax and a hopped up gasser GMC. I figure that my HP was more than the duramax but he really took off quick. Is is possible to launch in 4-wheel high? I left it in 4 lo but lost steam. My pull was 290' 1", his was 330'. He also had a different suspension set up with his front nose down and rear up. Now I'm just looking for more pulls and saving my pennies for u-joints. Saw three other guys blow theirs up $$$$. Best part was driving home still getting 18.5 mpg. Now I see why you don't hook to the sled, the sled hooks you.

Congrats Paul!

U just gave me an idea as to what your setup can do.. Had you a lil more traction and experience i bet you would have won! If his front nose was down i bet it was weights, and can you launch in 4hi? u can only shift into 4lo when you are stopped so no you cannot, anyways, the hopped up gasser? ach no worries, It took your "old school" ram to show up the newer trucks and i bet u shocked them,

If you have smaller than 305 size tires then its worth a try to run 4high.you need to get as much wheel speed as posible.

stay on the low side of the transfer case, high will just be worse. the d max that out pulled you knew what he was doing, you let the torsion bars down in the front and lower the truck to keep the ifs front end from cratering the tie rods. i bet he had more power than you also. heck if he just had a 135 box he would more than likely have more power than you. plus they have that low first gear in the allison to make it get with the program. if you wan't to beat him get some more fuel, i suggest a 215 pump.
and congrats 3rd is what i did first time also.

That`s better then I did my first time! I got 6th out of 21, and missed 2nd by less then 7 feet. But first was a gasser that put more then 120 feet on everyone else. In my opinion, all trucks hooking in a diesel class should have to run on diesel fuel. If a gasser is willing to use diesel then he can hook. It is more then a little unfair for a $10,000 crate engine to compete with near stock diesels.

NOT NECESSARILY. IF YOU GOT THE POWER RUN THE **** THING! IT'S ANOTHER THING IF YOU DON'T THEN YOU GET LAUGHED OFF THE TRACK.

I would agree if you are streetable, but when you have a gasser that would over heat running down to McDonalds and you are running in a class that states the truck must be street legal, then you should not be allowed to pull in that class. Plain and simple!

Would they let a Diesel truck in with the gassers if you made weight? I highly doubt it, but don't know! The class states "7500# Diesel street legal" Nowhere does it say "and non street legal gas trucks" Just a pet peeve!

gunracer 1:

I think you hit it on the head. I talked with a buddy who said the same thing about the front torsion bars. That really must redistribute the weight. I know that I was light on the throttle since it was my first time. Didn't peg the pyro till 3/4 down the track. My truck also smoked like a freight train which tells me it's time for another turbo. I had my P-pump bench tuned and it was at 430cc's of fuel before I changed from the 191 DV's to some JR's laser cut, so it should be even more. The smoke is a great crowd pleaser but I think of it as untapped power. I'll give'er next time though. Thanks for all kudo's and ideas.

Guys I've pulled gassers for years and this cummins for 1 year. Coming from the "other side of the pulling track" I noted the squabble about gassers in the diesel class.

Where I am fuel divides the class except for at 1 pull. Gas pullers argued that if diesel trucks are allowed forced induction, although they are produced that way, shouldn't we be allowed it too? The fair boards noted this and split the class off on it's own. The what about N/A diesel arguement doesn't work either aas there are too many 6.2 GM and 6.9 International diesels with Banks and ATS setups, they're surely not "stock". Since a 350 chevy on a single turbo with say 30psi boost will produce in the neighborhood of 1000 horsepower and turn 6500 rpm easily the cummins, duramax, and strokers couldn't put up much of a fight in modified trim.

I like my cummins but, my 425HP 550 Lb ft 468 chevy will let people know it's on the track too. No matter what brand they side with.

Talk to you local pull officials about pulling diesel separately they should listen.

I say let'em on the track.

Do you know how much it takes to build a small block that will hold 30psi?

Our Diesels are street driven.
I say let all the gassers in the class you want.
Most likely the better diesels will put the stompin' on them hp for hp.
