Let van haisley build you a bullet proof auto. diesel manuals are not goin to be very fast at the track.

I think the haisley price is somewhere around $6600, and they have never blown one up on the track. If you are goin to spend that much money on a tranny you want to make sure it is going to last and haisleys have proven their unit works.

Last I heard, Haisleys were using Goerends parts for the big units. (especially the Torque Converter)

Josh

Edit: I was there when Dave got a phone call from Van..... "You want to spin how many RPM?!?!" "Well the gas converter go that high...I don't think it would be a problem." After he got off the phone smiling and shaking his head, he said Van asked what he thought of turning 5,000rpm with his converters.

I think the Torque Converters that van uses on the pulling trucks are ATS. He uses Goerends for trailer toaters and depending on what you want in it. Just look on their website it tells.

The Haisley's ATS convertor and valvebody didn't hold up very well to BD 180 injectors and a PM3 Comp. Haisley was told to build the transmission for pulling/racing at 550-600HP. "Convertor and valvebody should hold it." Unfortunately they were believed and many un-returned phone calls later the TC/VB was installed using ATS tech support. He promptly broke the input shaft. Lots of money down the drain and he called Dave to order a GB tranny. Just one buddy's experience.

brnaodn.

Txboy,
Yeah, for racing definitely Auto.
Haisley's makes a great auto for sled pulling.
I am sure it would work fine for racing.

Auto vs. Manual

Either way, your going to be spending some moolah. A South Bend DD clutch that is SFI approved will run you about 2K (or more) depending on where you get it. This will hold quite a bit of horsepower. To add to the Haisley's comment...I live in Indianapolis and have had Haisley's do some head work for me. They've always been genuine and honest with me. Their aluminum input shaft sells for 850 bucks. The stock one will go when you start putting some serious torque to the ground. They also guarantee to replace your input shaft for free if you break one of theirs.
