Last time i saw the truck it didnt have slicks yet, but barry was looking....unfortunatly slicks in a 17" rim are not easy too come by. If it is running slicks, i would bet they are a 32" mickey, that keeps the same gearing they had with the 20's on it!

He has the proxies too,, but he races with slicks now,, havent been able to catch up with Barry to find out what size they are yet,, but I would bet that they are either 32 or 33"

DId he not run an 11.25 in Denver. I talked to Barry himself and thats what he said he ran. Who makes slicks in that size for a 17 inch rim?

He did run around the 11.00 mark i was mistaken with the 11.20 he has run 10.60 now with the same truck.

As for tires he is still running Toyo's on it and probably wont be changing to slick this year but there still is a chance.

Awesome running truck for sure can't wait to go head to head with it.

I run the proxes on my truck because it is always on the street. Ive had a couple sets of these tires and they do pretty well on the asphault. ive had it up over 100 many times and they do great for a heavy truck. plus they were about 400 cheaper than all terrains for a 20" wheel

jwb600:

Good point on the "Toyo Proxes ST's!" Because of you and a few others here, I had some installed on my 96'. My dealer said they are speed rated to 130 MPH versus 112 MPH on the "BF Goodrich Radial All-Terrain KO's" I had on there before. I wanted to ask you if you guys had any issues at all with your Toyos being "out of round" or tough for your tire dealer to get balanced out right?? Boy, they sure did with the ones they tried inititally on my 96'. It ended up taking around nine (9) tires to get four good ones, which really surprised me, but I was wondering if it was the size I have (275/70R/16) versus that of the larger 17 or 18" Toyos.

Thanks for any input you have on this.

John I have ran 2 sets of these and I think they are hard to keep balanced. I had them on a gas chevy and they wouldnt stay balanced on it and they were a similar size to what you have. I get some vibration out of mine but I think my u-joint is bad so not sure if it is the tires. are you going to scheid this year John?

Hey buddy, thanks for your quick reply!

I really appreciate your input on these Toyo Tires. I thought I was the only one that was having the balance problem. After the tire dealer installed the "good set" of four the truck rode pretty darn good.

But I already had accumulated almost 3,000 miles on them and the tire dealer said to MAKE SURE I kept them rotated/balanced every 2,500-3,000 miles. So last week, I had my Dodge Dealership rotate/balance them, and now I have a little "vibration" or "hop" at about 45 MPH. Once past 45 MPH it goes away but when you slow down and hit 45 again you feel the bounce or hop!
It's weird that it did this just from the rotation/rebalance.

Yes, I will be at the Scheid Rally again this year. I head up there early to help Dan Scheid and his Staff set-up etc. and should be working with them at their dyno on Friday and Saturday. Come on by and say hello if you get a chance. My goal this year is to try and meet a bunch of the guys from the DTR website that I have not met before. Put a name with a face if you know what I mean! I talk to so many of you guys here but it is nice to also meet and get to know that person too!

Thanks again and hope to see you up there.
