1/4 Mile Advice

Guys,
Question for ya'll. How much boost do you guys recommend for the 1/4 mile launch? I've been launching at about 8 lbs and hammering it. I get a TINY bit of wheel spin and lock up once I hit 2nd. Would you suggest building more boost, or a different technique to launch?

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm heading to the track at the end of the month and want to be prepared.

thanks guys!!

I'd invest in some black steely rims and put some drag radials or something like them on it. I would think this would helpout a ton and you could build more boost.

Is it a 4X4 or a 2wd and do you have billet shafts?

My best 60' times come with a 20 to 25 lb launch. Lots of front wheel spin though, making the runs too inconsistent for bracket racing. I usually stick to a 10 lb launch or less when bracket racing to avoid wheel spin. Makes the runs much more consistent.

MColeman,
2wd and yes, have the billet shaft.

Ok, so slicks...definitely a thought...but that's $$ I'm not planning on spending...yet...

So I'll stick with the 7-10lb launch. What settings do you use on the TST? Last time I did a 7/4 and EZ on 4. Gave me what I would like to think was good power, I'm hoping/expecting to have my FASS in by the time I get to the track again, so hopefully that'll give me a little more "umph"

My rig is a 2nd gen VP44 so my settings on my stack will be different than what you use on a 3rd gen. My EZ is mainly just for timing. Changing the settings on mine won't affect maximum power it just affects how soon or late it adds what little fuel the 2nd gen EZ adds.

Check the websites of the following companies.
Mickey Thompson
Nitto
BF Goodrich
They all make drag radials.

M&H Tires are what Darren runs. Seem to work pretty decent.

I have a 4 wheel drive,I typically launch at 22lbs. of boost and my truck will 60ft. in the 1.70 range all day long.Your truck being 2 wheel drive presents a few problems.I saw a 17" drag radial by M&H,but i think it s 14" wide.I ve not measured a truck,i dont know if it will fit.

I cant find anything that tall for a 17" rim.Ive seen 33" for 15" and 16" wheels but no luck on the 17".I wish i could find one though. There is an 8th mile track not too far from me and every month they host a clobberthon race,it it broken up into many time classes and I wanted to enter their 7.60 class and show those gassers a thing or two,but they wont let me , they allow slicks or drag radials only.

Im running Hoosier Quick Time Pros 31x13.5, I paid about $205 apiece from Summit. They are mounted on black steel Crager wheels that are 15x10, cost about $65 each.
