A/C panel light Fix
A/C panel light Fix
Does anyone know how to remove the faceplate and fix a loose connection or burnt out light? Sometimes I have to tap the panel to get the whole thing to light up. But now the whole upper section won't light up.
Yes... man, I JUST did this tonight. I knew I should have taken pictures.
You have to remove the whole dash around the AC, the AC panel is screwed into the back of the dash. Then, take apart the assembly, two screws on mine, and unsnap it. The lights twist out. My dealer had to order them, but they were only three bucks each.
Our trucks are a little different, but if you need me to, I can take the wife's 08 apart and see... I think the dash styles are the same.

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. If equipped, remove the floor console, (Refer to 23 - Body/Interior/CONSOLE, Floor - Removal) .
3. Remove the cup holder if equipped, (Refer to 23 - Body/Instrument Panel/CUPHOLDER, Instrument Panel - Removal) .
4. On vehicles with a close out panel, remove the screws (3) and remove the close out panel (2).
5. Remove the screws (2).
6. Using a trim stick C-4755 or equivalent, disengage the retainer clips that secure the instrument panel center bezel (1) to the instrument panel.
7. Disconnect the wire harness connectors (4) and remove the center bezel from the vehicle
Sounds harder then it really is.

O.K., lets try to make it as hard as possible to change a light bulb the engineers said as they were designing this truck.
Oh, and thank you for the pics w/ info to remove it.

Many times the two screws (2) aren't put back in place, if thats the case then just a trim stick or strong fingers will be able to pull the bezel off. Just make sure the screws are not installed first.

Dont put them two bottom screws back in. The dash wont rattle, and it makes it a whole lot easier to get back behind there if you need.

While I have this removed, I'd like to be able to add a light above my cup/ change holder like I had in my 2007.5 Laramie. Since the SLT's don't come w/ this how can I add one? It already have a square opening available and it's located in the second pic labeled #2. Like how would I wire it up and also brace a light so it won't hang or wobble their? When it comes to electrical work I know nothing so would need to try to explain it to me like you would to a 5th grader in detail and or w/ pics.

Why don't you just get one of those map lights that plug into cig lighter. There are hundreds of them on the market Amazon has some also.

O.K., this is the info I was looking for. https://www.dodgeparts.com/product_i...aa600fc7d5a98a
I got this info from another web site as I have not attempted it as yet but I thought I'd post the info for the rest of you if you wanted to do it yerself.
"The ashtray light is a bit tougher. Pull the rubber inserts out of the cup holders and unbolt the two pieces that mount to the center of the floor. The plastic insert, that recesses into the dash, that has the slot for the light to plug into, pulls straight down, with a bit of a wiggle.
The light snaps in from the front and the wire plugs in from the drivers side. The easiest way to pull the wire out is to use a o-ring puller, or a wire like a filler rod with a hook bent into the end of it with an approximately 3/8 radius hook. Look towards the speed-o-meter, up through the slot in the plastic, behind the piece the light snaps into, there will be a small bundle of two wires that has electrical tape on them. Follow them away from the slot and you will see a little plug inserted into the plastic inside the dash. It looks like it is plugged into something, it's not. Pull it out with the hook and work it down to, and out of the slot. You will probably need a flashlight for doing this.
Plug it in and put everything back together. "

What is the bulb type/number?
Mine is the same...it works then shuts off, I tap the top of the area and most times it comes back on.
[sigh] It'll have to wait til I get this arm working again.

Did you do something to your arm?
It doesn't help that the Directors of the company out of the USA I work with are contacting me telling me that two individuals at work are saying I am faking this and are concerned with the fall out of these accusations. It does tell me more about the integrity or lack thereof. Sorry to digress from the topic.
I too am interested in this solution!
