Cracked oil pan on a 3406E
Cracked oil pan on a 3406E
I love my Cats but the aluminum pan on these things drives me nuts.....i digress... slight crack in the pan has re appeared, it was welded slightly before i bought the truck 3 years ago and im just wondering if they ever stay welded when they try to fix them or if its just easier to go get another pan, either aftermarket or factory.....
suggestions??????
thanks guys
by the way its the truck in my sig

depends on where the crack is, close to the bolts= get a good used one. side or bottom, take it to a GOOD aluminum welder. at least you don't have that Detroit plastic pan, one good hit and 10 gallons of oil on the ground

You should change all the isolators on the oil pan bolts when the pan is down. What is the max rpm on your motor? was it cranked up? I know Cats are real sensitive to higher rpm without changing the balancer.
it will spin to 2100, factory rated at 475 and 1650, turned up before i got it to 550 and 1850, reflashed at the same 550/1850 when finning inframed it a year and a half ago

I would really like to believe when Finning inframed it he changed out the balancer.
keep us posted.
I do not know if it was ever set to turn that slow.. it was 11 yrs old with 1,079,000 on it when i got it, however it was a fleet spec truck out of ontario in its early life.. I will recheck my invoice and see if a balancer shows up on there, but i cant remember one its been a while since i looked haha
