3406E 435hp Mods
Are there any mods besides a chip that can help the torque of this engine? We generally pull 81-84Klbs. on the 4-lane at 70-75 mph. The truck has 3.70 gearing with a 10-sp. Dont want anything exotic or expensive. If there is any d.i.y. adjustments we can do first that would help out, the info is much appreciated ahead of time.

To the best of my knowledge NO, it's an "E" computer controlled.
You could take it to the CAT house, they can change the settings in
the computer.
I know if you get the "right" person it will go to 500+ HP that would make
you very

I'm curious about stopping distance for all that mass. Where I live near 8miles of 8% grade there's a couple of sandpile escape ramps. Occasionally a tractor gets rolled underneath the loaded trailer in the middle of the ramp while others get pushed over the top of the ramp. Speed at approach probably makes the difference. Of course a loaded trailer is not gonna slide the tires on pavement, In a reallife scenario I was curious how fast 85k lbs at 70 MPH could be stopped on level ground or how far the truck would bypass a hazard while trying to get stopped by the time the driver sees it with his own eyes instead of hearing about it on the CB. I wonder how fast a person could flag down a truck about an upcoming hazard without a CB.

My friends dad has a 3406E in his W900 that he pulls a "michigan train" with. He's a steel hauler. He went to a Cat dealer in Michigan with Truck and they downloaded something in to the computer call a Logging Off-Road edition. i think his truck is up there around 500 hp.

Brutal, but would definitely get the point across. Talk about a long lasting impression.

Outside of the aftermarket. You can have the famous 5232 inj. trim codes installed, good for a few ponies
Depending on the serial number prefix 435's are limited to the "iron". If it is a later serial number prefix it can be reflashed to a higher hp/torque rating, for a nomial fee of course.

Coalbucket is correct. Basically when you go to the Cat house its gonna happen along these lines. They are first gonna ask you what the truck is used for, see if its under warranty, retrieve the engine serial and prefix. Then they will go to a graph that shows how high each serial # can be upped until "iron changes" need to be made (turbos, pistons, cams, injectors etc.) and then let you decide how deep your wallet is and how far you want to go. You also need to keep in mind the torque rating of your transmission. Some even have to switch out transmissions for just a 20 horse uprate so when it goes out They will not be liable. If you dont want any iron changes then they will simply download new fuel settings and a different ECM software version for your engine. I have seen 20 horse uprates run as high as 8-900 bucks without iron changes. IMO, your money would be better spent getting the Pittsburg Power box from said company earlier in this thread. Last time I checked, it compensated for boost pressure and or high exhaust temp to save your engine.
