Back up lights stopped working
Back up lights stopped working
I looked in the module under the hood and in the owners manuel and can't find the location of the fuse. I pulled every fuse out from the module and nothing was blown. Can anyone help? thanks
Matt: Is there no fuse? I know I accidently shorted out the wire when I was wiring something else recently so it seems like I blew the fuse but maybe I fried the switch? What I actually did was I have a flat bed so I don't have the original backup lights but I used the factory back up light circuit to wire the new lights and this has worked fine for a number of years. recently I wanted to add a feature that allowed me to turn on lights 360 degrees around the vehicle so I added two lights on the side of the truck and spliced into the original equipment running lights in the front and spliced into the backup lights in the rear. The original equip running lights in the work work just fine either off my light switch or the circuit I added but the backup lights only work on the circuit I added. I accidently shorted out the backup lights when I was adding this additional circuit.

There is a flash for 2006 for the TIPM it may apply to your truck also. It changes the rear tail light circuit from a 15 amp to a 20 amp Read the tsb may need to reset TIPM if short has been detected more then 250 times by TIPM. TIPM can be reset five times after that it will need to be replaced. Check the backup light switch on trans first make sure you have power there you might just have a bad switch.

I recently put a flatbed on my 06 3500 srw. I already had three trailer plugins on the truck. Two of them are the with the factory trailer tow package and the other was installed when I had the goose neck ball installed. The wires pulled loose and caused a short and now I don't have anything on the left turn light on the trailer plug. The left turn on the truck is okay and everything on the right is okay also. I can't find a blown fuse either. I tried to chase the wire down last night and had to quit. Is there another fuse or a relay somewhere that I am missing or could the wire be burned into? Thanks in advance for any help. Dave
Sorry I didn't get back with the responders on this issue but I left for climbing in Yosemite. Tomorrow I will check the switch on the transmission. I called my local Dodge dealer and received a message that there is no fuse but that the circuit is "computer driven". (whatever that means)

I think I found the switch. It is on the rear left top of my trans. (I have a 6 speed) I checked it and when the plunger is out I have continuity when in, no continuity so it appears to be working. I checked the voltage on both wires going into the switch and if the ignition is on, I have approx 5 volts on the white wire and nothing on the black wire. I don't understand exactly what BigIron70 is referring to but will check with my Dodge dealer to see if there is a TSB issued.
johnr9g I replaced my switch last week also. New switch and lights worked fine. After replacing the switch and marviling how a nut with a little ball on the end could cost 75.00$ stuck my continuity tester to it and it acted just as you described. Put it back in the truck just to see and no lights, put new switch in and lights worked. Must be the way the contacts are made and wear down in relation to how they are activated. Has continuity when the "ball" is pressed in but no matter what no lights with the old switch.
So I took my vehicle into Dodge and $180 later we (I helped the service tech) ended up disconnecting the remote that I added to light the backup lights then my backup lights worked just fine. The tech also flashed my TIPM. I discussed, with the tech, adding a diode in the circuit so that when I use my remote control circuit to light the backup lights juce won't flow back into the system only to the backup lights. The Tech thot this a good idea and said to bring the vehicle back to him when I'm finished and he'll flash the TIPM again. I started looking for a common wire under the rear of my truck that feeds both backup lights and it appears that there is a seperate wire running from somewhere under the hood to each of the backup lights. Can someone tell me where I can find (under the hood or elsewhere) where I can splice into a single wire (and use a diode) that would luminate the backup lights with my seperate circuit or maybe I should wire into the switch on the transmission?
