Lights stopped working

My lights have been acting up. It seems to be the swtich because if I turn them on and off a few times, the lights will come on, but now only the headlights turn on. I could smell burning of some sort last time they worked and then I turned them off, then they came on 1 more time.

Now, only the headlights will turn on. It seems to be the swtich, but when I took off the dash, getting the switch seemed impossible without removing EVERYTHING.

Anyone else experience this, and if so, what did you do? I really dont want to take the entire dash apart, but it seems to be my only option. I couldn't find a fuse for the lights.

BTW, the lights work, they just wont turn on. My break lights, head lights, blinkers all work, but the running lights are hosed.

The switch isn't that hard to get out, if you get your head down in there , you can see a little metal button on the switch , looks similar to the head of a rivet , you can press it , and the button will slide out , then it is just a matter of getting the switch out.

Well Big, sounds like you have a problem. Dodges are known for the headlight switch going bad and the burning smell you speak about is the socket that the switch plugs into getting hot and melting. I have had two do that just lately, only because there was too many lights on the trailer I was pulling. I couldent find a socket at napa and Dodge dealer would sell the whole wiring harness at some crazy price so for the first truck I bought a new switch first then got some insulated push on conectors, cut the wires from the headlight switch socket leaving about 1/2 inch so you can match them up when replacing them. Then crimp the connectors to the cut wires and attach them to the new headlight switch. One other way is to go to an auto wreckers, get a switch, socket and leave as mich wire on as possible and splice that into your harness. I did both ways and they are still working. Its not as hard as it sounds .....good luck with it....I hope this helps you....

Yea i had to do it 7 or 8 yrs ago , all power runs through the headlight switch, makes it vunravle to over heating melting and allsorts of bad things, poor electrical engenering.
I had to redo the wires and eliminate the socket mine was melted beyond recgonation .But that was all 7 or 8 yrs ago and havent had a problem since
