went to the other side today

I leased a new 2012 3500 Longhorn today. The rebate and discount was the turning point. The amount I saved will pay my fuel bill for almost four years. I love my 06 Mega Cab, but will put it on Kiiji.

I am intriqued by the concept of a new truck but I thnk I will wait until the 2014's come out and they work out any bugs from the redesign haha

As you have already pulled the pin I won't say much other than keep an eye on your engine oil and buy a code reader to carry with you. Good luck.

Having my company lease vehicles works better for me. Going to a code throwing, EGR fuel guzzling 2012 6.7, from my 5.9s
Busboy: I am going put either a B&W GN along with a companion 5th W hitch or a 5th slider: please offer an opinion.

LM, you will really like that 6.7, for the most part they have been excellent. Biggest problem that I have consistantly heard is the DPF. But other than that the torque is amazing. Very nice to drive

The B&W is a nice set up.. easy to install. Worth every penny.. I've never had a failure. I love the flush mount when the companion is pulled out..Also.. If your creative.. You can make bike mounts for the bed of your truck that mount with the B&W.. Truthfully. It's a great set up.. NO i don't work for B&W. They also have fantastic service also. call em to discuss what you need.

Like Grand Geek says the B&W turnover is awesome and the companion is too. I made up a 5ver pin on a couple of links of chain that a slip onto a boom on a skid steer, I lock the pin into the head and I lift the complete companion out in one go. The auto is a short box and it is tight if you have a tool box, I had to notch the tool box to get it so the companion would go in and out easily but the G56 truck is a long box and there is plenty of room with a tool box. In the instructions for the companion it says to torque (40ftlb) the companion down onto the lock pin then tighten the "u" bolts. I shimmed the companion so the lock pin can be moved easily so nothing has to be undone for removal or installation so mine is the same as the goose pin. The rubber stick on pads at each corner came off on mine so I replaced them with 1/4 inch thick rubber belting the same size and used some 3/16inch bolts placed in the corrugations of the truck box to attach to the companion. Love the hitch, never binds unhooking and is very smooth towing. If you have a short box and an older 5ver the clearance to the cab corners will be tight as with any non slider hitch but my 5ver is new and has cut away corners, that coupled with the ability to move the pin position more on the companion gives me the ability to turn to almost 90 degrees far greater than I would ever need. I made a low wood dolly on casters to store the hitch on so the pin does not contact the ground. the hitch and dolly roll under the trailer for storage.

How much for your mega cab? 512,000 kms on my 04.5 and still running strong, but I might be interested in a truck, with less km's and a little less wear and tear!

I'm pretty sure I will not be buying a diesel truck without it being deleted. Way too many issues with urea and cold temps for me.

I should be good for a long time with my 02 and 2010 trucks on the go. I plan to buy a cheap skate gaser for now on. Gaser's are a way cheaper truck to buy and operate over the long haul.

That's why many fleets are switching back to gas and some fleets never even went to diesel even though diesel is abundant in the oil patch.

Hi guys

Thanks for the GN feedback: That is how I'm going to go. My 5vr is new, with the corner cutouts.
As for the Mega Cab: just under 223K, as a lubrication specialist, it is very well maintained. I have not detailed her yet or put it on Kiiji, but I will ask just under $30K

I'm currently looking for a cargo trailer stateside, plus on any 5th wheel that might be in my future, I was planning on outfitting with a GN adapter. With this decision made, I recently installed a Mumby GN hitch.

www.mumbyhitch.com

Ball is released from inside the bed - no lever in a muddy wheel well. Found it to be one of the highest weight rated.

Just another option.

Festus, I too have a Mumby (got it at Standen's in Calgary) and I use it to attach my little 5er to the hideaway ball. I love it but a lot of folks in the trailer forum say they are brutal on kingpins and the frame around them because they act as a lever on the kingpin when there shouldn't be any lever like stresses.

So far, I am happy with it.

Being the Mumby is made in Sk I looked at it long and hard, I couldn't get past the fact I would have to use the goose adapter to tow my 5ver. My last trailer was a Titanium and many of those frames broke up front even without using a goose adapter, this had me quite worried and I traded the trailer before it broke for my current one. If Mumby would have had a 5ver hitch that fit into their goose ball hitch like B&W does I would have gone with the Mumby. I like the safety chain plate that installs with the ball in the second generation Mumby, it's better than the B&W set up and also the lock handle on the B&W is a pain if the wheel well is wet and dirty. I have thought of cutting the liner back but I think that helps to keep it clean.
