The GT4294 is a pretty common turbo and shouldn't be that expensive to replace. A K-31 is nice replacement and pretty easy to find. Same goes for the S475 or BHT-3B. Compounding twins work nice as you'll have more boost available but depending on the wastegate set-up you can only get about 75% of max air flow out of the primary. The trick is to bypass the secondary as it becomes hinderance at the higher power pulls. Of course a perfect twins would be spool nice on the bottom and have tons of air for the 80psi blasts.
I haven't seen to many street trucks where a primary is being pushed past ~30psi, especially into the s480/gt4708 size. (I am just using 3 turbos, to build a "twins" setup. With the two hx-35's being in parallel as the "primary")

If I ever get to the point of having the fueling for all that air, I would need a larger secondary anyway, probably something in the 66mm range would be a nice start.

The GT42 is not a BB unit, so I will just have it rebuilt, it just needs the turbine seal as it is starting to push oil past it.

Two HX-35's will move ruffly 120lbs/min or about the same as an S480/GT4708, for what I have for fueling right now, two T3/T40E 50trims, would be about ideal (~88lbs/min) but if I were to go out and buy those I would end up spending as much as to just rebuild the GT42. At this point it is almost as much about building it as it is about if it works or not.

So just in case anyone hasn't figured out what I am going to run it is: twin hx-35's as a primary, over an HE351VE secondary. Now the two reasons I am going to try this:

1) I enjoy fabbing and building stuff.
2) All said and done I will have less $$$ into this setup then I will to rebuild my GT42 (which will be getting rebuilt regardless).

I have a few idea's on getting it to spool better, but need to get it together first.
Sounds like a good plan, I'll be interested in seeing how the piping works out. Atleast you have lots of room in the 1st gens engine bay.

Any updates on the truck dvst8r? I'm bored at work and its friday. How you planning on putting in the second drail into the oil pan? I have a few bungs that you could push into the pan if you need. I'm with Tate on the newer 12v engine, as the 98 came with a second drain and the injector lines already set-up for the pump. Been thinking more about just putting in a 12v into my 02, instead of putting on a P pump. Those P pump conversion kits would almost pay for a nice rebuild 12v and talking to Tate there are issue with 24V p pump injector lines (smallish size) The look of a 12v is just so classic as well. It would be cool to see a twin HX-35 truck in action.

No the Hot weather has made for me to be extremely busy at work again (Industrial AC Sales)

I am going to pull the pan and weld a fitting on, or at least that is the current plan.

I have given up on P-pumping for this go around, it was starting to snowball out of control (I was feeling like Swamp, but with way less cool stuff ), I think over the winter I will look at getting a 12v motor and just start with that. Now the dilemma is will ~120lbs of air just be so laggy on 450hp worth of fuel that it will be really flat to drive. I have started to look for yet another charger something along the lines of a T3 "60" or "super 60". So I can swap one hx-35 out and try the difference, of ~90lbs /min. Also I have been pondering the idea of getting something like a throttle body, and adding it to the exhaust stream, so I can get one half of the primary spooling and then add in the other half.

At this point I just need to get this head off to machining, which as long as the heat stays will be a couple more weeks as I am working 6-10's to try and keep up. I was really hoping that it would be ready for blackout, but I know now that it will not happen. I will still be there (booked as vacation month's ago just in case of hot weather).

Ok enough procrastiating on this quote...

I'm building some quick spooling twins for towing. Things got slow enough at work for me to actual put time into my project. I'm building a GT3588R over a S366. I originally wanted to put on a big wastegate and pray that the primary turbo will spool fast enough. Well anyways...There always bigger turbos. I must have too much time on my hands these days. I want to drive my truck to work every day and have big power. This time I'm going smaller than bigger...

That was my original plan, an hx35 over an S366. I traded a guy another hx-35 I had for what was supposed to be an S366 ETT, When I got the charger it was an S360 ETT. I suppose I could have kept that for the manifold charger, but a friend of mine was building a turbo car and it worked out perfectly for what he needed, so I gave it to him.

Shortly after that I cam across the HE351VE and decided I wanted to play with that. My truck was already off the road at this point, so I haven't actually had a chance to run it, but that will be the first step when it gets back together, run that as a single till I get the vanes sort of dialed in, at which point I will add the primary(s).

I am almost thinking of buying another truck just to drive, as since I bought this truck almost 3 years ago, I have put about 5,000km's on it, including driving it in my move from Prince George to Okotoks last year.

Lol, out of my price range if I plan on getting anywhere with farm truck in the next 10 years.

My spare truck will be something really cheap just enough to haul junk and dirtbikes.

I thought people where hooking up the VGT part to the old style wastegate actuvator. I haven't seen one but like to some day. I have a 4088VGT that I bought a year ago. It uses hydraulic pressure and an electronic soleniod, but where there a will there a way. I also don't like the inducer size and trim on the compressor. And the turbine housing is too big, so..I don't know what I'm going to do. I want VGT twins but have an e-brake as well. The best of the best, the trick is just finding the parts without breaking the bank.

The GT3588R over S366 set-up that I'm building right now is just a try to see what happens. Its not going to stay on too long. I had the GT3588R custom built for me. I had them put in a GT37 impeller and larger turbine disk. The compressor exducer isn't too big (reduces the inertia required to spool-up) The pressure ratio isn't to tall around 3:1, which all you really use for the secondary anyways.Man I need a drill press. I just gonna cut the flanges myself. I bought some 1/2in steel plate yesterday. The air tubes are really short, about 1/2 lenght of my old set and I'm using 3in air tubes, just to see. Hopefully in theory it works.Hopefully in two to three weeks they should be on the truck.

Mike your setup is very similar to BD's towing setup. Other then your GT35R should spool quicker then the 57mm S300G they have. Should be lots of fun around town.

As far as flanges I get all my stuff from here http://store.weirtech.ca/catalog/ his website is still under development, but Aaron is a great guy and in Canada (Ontario to be specific). He will build any flange you want, just send him a .dxf file or a gasket or drawing so he has something to work with.

Yeah my VGT will be controlled by a wastegate actuator, but it will still need some adjustment as to when it starts to move, how quickly it ramps open and the closed position vs exhaust brake position.

I don't think that my top end power will be that good but should be better than my single GT3782R. The trick is to get the boost up quickly, so you have less smoke. I'm guessing that it should be good for 55 to 60psi of boost. We will see.I'm only shooting for 450 to 500 rwhp using these injectors.

Sounds right inline for what BD says about there small twins, so I would expect the same for your setup.

The top turbo has a small turbine housing, I should really run an external gate, but BD doesn't use one their twins. I just hope that my egt's aren't higher than the GT3782R. There is nothing wrong with the GT3782R, its just time for change.I have another set twins on the go as well (GT3788R/S475), but thats a different application and more for making top end power. For use on a highly fuelled 12v or 24V (VP or P pump) with my mach 6's and spray.

Thanks for the link, he has some pretty good pricing. I just want to build my own flanges and see what involved in making them. Each time I build a set of twins I find something that I don't like or I will do differently next time.

This set is a quick and dirty set-up and nothing fancy towing twins, wait and see if it works. I have a few turbo just collecting dust in the garage, so, why not.Its only beer and time.

I have found that despite what lots of the people on compd say (all whom seem to be running big $$$ ED gates) cheap CDM wastegates work just fine (just open them up and make sure they are assembled right). I have a 44mm external gate that I am going to use on my build.

Now I am by no means an expert in this, but I am feeling more and more like a bit of a tighter hotside and a good sized external gate is the way to go for a street setup.

If I was building a track setup I would run a T4 manifold / charger.
