Transmission rebuild sugestions

I'm in the position of having to rebuild my Trans prior to putting some money into twins and other motor upgrades. When fixing something beyond my skill-set I have a non-trans mechanic help out who's become a good friend. He has suggested Lo-Cost just off whyte avenue. He's dealt with them for 15 years and highly recommends them. Now, I'm a guy that enjoys pulling his own wrenches and I'd prefer to purchase a trans from Goerend, Suncoast or ATS and bolt it up myself. However, I'd be the one pulling it if there is a warrenty problem. Also, it's cold and snowy out and without the proper place to perform this task I'm going to farm it out. Jason at Lo-Cost will build me one full billet and install it with 20,000km one year warrenty for a price slightly less expensive than a full Goerend build. It seem fairly appealing to me and my pocket book.

I'd appreciate any comments about Lo-Cost or any other transmission shops who has installed your trans within 200kms of Edmonton. However, I'm not interested in NADP. Been there twice and both times less than enjoyable.

Thanks for reading my post

Mel at Excel in Red Deer does good work. Armor Inc in Red Deer is a Goerend dealer.

running one of Mel's units and its doing its job. Could also give Boris at DOT trans in Edmonton a call, not sure about his diesel trans but he did our gasser trannys for a company I used to work for and we hauled heavy and they were good.

I called Armor about a torque converter and they're pricing sucked. They were going to charge me what Goerend charges as well as shipping to them and then shipping from them to me. It was more than just buying direct from Goerend.

I've been chatting via email with Donovan at Armor Inc. The pricing he gave me on the Goerend installed is cheaper than what I can order a full billet trans for straight from the Goerend site. Maybe is was a down time in the canadian dollar or something....?

I don't think I can go wrong on this one. The warrenty is a 3 year 160000km as well. Piece of mind to me is worth it.

2 weeks to get one built and up here at his shop.

That warranty sure sounds a lot better than 1 year/20k.

I bought my trans for my 12valve at lo-cost from a friend's recomendation and within 3 weeks of it being in the truck it started to howl and whine. After paying cash they miraculously forgot who i was and weren't intersted in servicing their junk. If i hadn't been 1800kms away they would have had a core through their shop front window! That's my recomendation, or lack there of! --end of rant--
Cheers!

Also running Mel's full billet in my 07. Stout as could be!!! Mine has taken a beating and never let me down. Goerend is great except if something happens, then your truck is down for the turn around time, customs, etc...
Mel stands behind his builds and I wouldn't go elsewhere!!!

I'm already planning for a rebuild on the 07 5.9 mega dually in the future---gonna drive her till it starts to slip and then look at options---maybe in a few years.Pretty sad that in this province with all the diesel trucks/interest there is very few/reliable/stand up/good tranny shops around that knows how to build one for these truck.Right now i would consider DTT,MEL at Excell and maybe NADP(heard a few opinions about them).DTT is my first choice but is 1000Km away---have problems---what do you do.Mel is 100Km away, closer option and only heard good things but not much out there as to what he does to them.NADP---do they stand behind what they build or do you open your wallet every time there is a problem. In this day and age it seem once you plunk your $$$ down they tend to forget who you are if anything should arise after the fact.DW-----PS what else to do once in there ---TQ Conv/valve body/flexplate/billet input for a good long lasting reliable tranny to support 500HP limit.

You could try Dominion Automatic here in town Mike, I dunno what their situation for 68rfes is but they build a solid 47/48re, if I blow up another tranny I'll prolly run my truck through them, Jim seems to be a standup guy who will back his work.

Thanks Gregg. So far the RFE68 been an outstanding stock transmission, and it has performed better than what I expected, but just incase...something bad would happen.

Nothing to wild for a build-up for the 10 truck, going to stay on the boring side with that truck but you are right stock is boring.
