You could probably pick one up somewhere between $1k-2k for the engine. If you can find a wrecked truck, that would be the ticket. Rob the whole drivetrain and sell whatever is left.

Won't find a highboy after 77.5, the were all lowboys. Need a 73-77 for a highboy.

The only difference is the spring packs, since the highboys had a 'factory lift'. Personally, I think the 77.5-79 is the better truck anyhow. Married NP205 or 203 instead of divorced, hi pinion open knuckle front diff, internal lock out hubs instead of the external kind. The 77.5 still has the signal lights above the headlights like from 73-77.

The earlier trucks had narrower frames in the rear than the newer trucks. 79 was the only year for a 4x4 F350. You could get the D60 in the F250 with the SnoFighter package, or just the higher GVWR. I know a lot of them were reg cabs, but I think you could still get them in the Supercab and crew cabs as well.

You guys see the truck build that trucks on spike TV is building. An 78-79 ish ford crew cab, short bed. They are putting it on a 97-98 12 cummins frame, using a 12v engine and five speed. They are going to do the 5 speed fifth gear fix and do some pump adjustments. A nice looking truck, I think that they are going to put the dodge dash/gauges into the ford. I've been following along, as I have always wanted to build an early 1/2ton chevy truck C10 short bed onto a dodge frame and 12v cummins.

Those 6.2's weren't that heavy, were they? Some friends in Sask had on old K5 blazer with the 6.2 in it. Would have been a fun vehicle had they put a real engine in it.

I have a '91 6.2 with a banks sidewinder turbokit, and 4L80E with OEM standalone controller hooked to a np205.

the only year and configuration you could get a NP205 on a 4l80e and standalone 4l80e controller because of the mechanical diesel. only in a '91 chev crewcab auto.
