summer gtg ghost lake
summer gtg ghost lake
Hi, I'm steamboat Herb. I picked that handle because one of my lake buddies taught me how to cast scrap alluminum to build a steam engine and then we put it in my cedar canoe. Andy and I are hosting a camp out at ghost so I can get to know a few guys and have some fun. I will put all the info into this post so most questions will be answered.
We picked Sept.12 &13 to meet so It won't be to busy but still good camping weather. The camp ground is 18 km west of cochrane on hwy 1-a. The sites should still be $20/ night. There are a few sites with power but most are without and toilets are out house and there are no showers. There are 2 free launch ramps. The waiparous creek 4by4 and quad trails are about 20 minutes up hwy 40. Boat gas is 2 minutes east by road. The camp ground only fills up on long weekends.
I have 4 homemade houseboats that I raft together when we float around and bbq our supper.I take out seniors and church groups so I have 50 life jackets if our group gets big and I will tow the powerboats behind. Fishing is fair with a few big ling and lakers. There are a few rainbows and whitefish as well.During the day I tuck in out of the wind on the beach by the sailboat moorings on south side of bridge.2 or three people can use a house boat to dock to.We will have a bonfire there saturday night and maybe people will bring a few fireworks. My bbq is a big one and avail. all day.My latest project is a 34 foot paddle wheeler. It is hydraulic drive and powered by an izuzu diesel out of a 1984 american chevette.I am writing stories about each boat and have put photos on my blog site. You can find them easy by googleing herbsboats, or go to http://herbsboats.wordpress.com.
I hope we get a good turn out since the big holiday season is over and you guys can teach me a few tricks for my first cummins rig. it is a 99 ram 2500 I bought last year to pull the paddle boat which is 8000 lbs on trailer with a lot of windage. See you all in sept. and if you are at the lake during summer stop in and introduce yourself or come for a beer. Herb

Tuff one for me too----might be on a Alaskan Cruise around then, some good deals on now for that time of year.I have to drive 1000KM+ northwest to drop the mutt off at grandpa/grandma place to watch while we are gone, hitch a ride back down to Grand Prairie from the old man,hop a plane to Vancouver where i will hook up with the MRS.(she is driving her car to Vancouver so we have wheels after the cruise).Enjoy cruising, hop in her car and drive from Van up through Fort ST John into Alberta and spend my last week out at the farm---then drive back to Calgary----about 3500KM+ all within a few weeks----.Sounds like fun---- but so does your weekend.
