A few guys here have ordered from the states, and if it comes UPS they refuse the shipment, and have it held at the warehouse. Or tell UPS to hold it at the warehouse prior to the delivery to the house. A quick trip to UPS, a couple of papers, over to the local CBSA office to pay any tax etc, then a trip back to the UPS warehouse with a couple of more papers from the CBSA (canada customs guys) and pick up the shipment, no extra brokerage fees, or any of that crap. Here in the 'peg it works great as the two warehouses are only a few blocks apart.

you can get away with that in winipeg because all stuff from the states (believe it or not) comes through winipeg, that is where their border offices are at.. It is so weird, even something from washington state has to go through winipeg.. just dumb

If the LMC stuff was made in the states then there would very little if any duties on it, but it all comes from overseas so the duties are maxed.

This is just me, but almost everything I have ever gotten from the States I get screwed on by the shipping company or by our fine government. That is the very reason I don't mind paying a little extra for local products. Just dropped $2,500 at Peak Diesel. Shipping for a cam, lifters, ATS manifold, head studs etc in 3 boxes cost me 30 bucks. Don't mind paying PST for our communist government if it means I know what my price is with no surprises. And Harry gave me all kinds of deals anyways.....

Bouts,

No offence, but that sounds painful. I know I would not have the patience to jump through all them hoops. Maybe I would do it once or twice...... just to mess with UPS for all the times they hosed me! Small sense of satisfaction to tell them to shove their brokerage fees!

I too just spent a few dollars for the 1st time at Peak Diesel in Langley B.C.
Harry Kelleher matched the lowest prices I found anywhere on-line. He was knowledgeable & pleasant.
And there will be no Fedex/UPS brokerage surprises.

The low advertised price balloons quickly after you exhange to Cdn, plus add shipping & then the ripoff UPS/Fedex brokerage charges.

You can phone Fedex or UPS and they will give you a good approximate of the brokerage charge.
It's just based on the paid amount of the goods.

...Joe

If at all possible allway send it through the mail,, no brokerage that way.... and if you sweet talk the place you bought it from sometimes they will mark it as a gift for you,, which also will save you duty etc

Indeed. They got another couple hundred dollars out of me the other day. Louise even knows me by name. Makes it nice to deal with a place like that.
