Shifter slack issues
Shifter slack issues
OK got the new short shift kit put it in and the shifter when not in my hand falls to the far left in nuetral and if you grab it and move it around it is very sloppy. It does the same with the stock shifter in as well to eliminate the new short shift kit. I have taken it aprt 5 times but can't figure it out unless I dropped something. I think before if I pulled the shifter to the nuetral poistion it would pull back the the center of that position. on top of that my Dodge DVD manual is corrupt so I can't check a exploded view of the 5 speed shift tower.
Any suggestions

Its been a while since I have taken one apart, so its all by memory at this point. One the pivot shafts on the shifter handle (goes side to side), there are the black plastic seats, that would press against a plastic ring or spring. If one of those plastic seats were to fall out, it would want to lean in that direction. So my guess is that you missed one of those plastic seats that go onto the handle.
BTW, no exploded views in the 01 FSM, otherwise it would have made it much easier for my to explain what I am thinking.

Tate if the truck was on a hill with the passenger wheels in a low spot the shifter would fall to the right as well its just the natural way the shifter is bent it falls tot he left as it sits normally.. I can littlery blow on the shifter and it will move back and forth. I have read alot tonight and one site was talking about nuetral plunger springs, but it has to be something with the tower as it was fine before the shifter snapped.
