Question idler slack

My idler pulley has some slack in it. With the belt off i can wiggle it 1/8 to 1/4 inch. there is no in-out movemnt though. Turns free by hand and makes no noise that i can hear. With moderate effort i can hear a noise when wiggling it. I called the service dept and they said it was fine as long as there was no in-out play. I have never seen an idle pully wiggle like that tho.
While i was looking under there with the belt off, i tried to wiggle the power steering pulley. No wobble, but it moves in-out about an 1/8 inch. no leaks and no apparent noise.
Does anybody elses do this???

When the idler goes bad the belt will walk back into the alternator and get chewed up.

Dunno about the idler but the PS is okay with some in/out play.
