RJ Performance in Calgary

Anyone had any dealings with these guys? They sell "surplus" engines.

Over the years Ive seen a number of posts where they ripped people off. On another board, I seen a police officer from the states looking for info about them.

These are just a few complaints - http://www.dieselbombers.com/diesel-...e-calgary.html

I think I would be very catious before handing them over any hard earned money.

I would say they are on the list of not approved shops.

Thankfully I'm not, but your warnings came a bit too late for a friend of mine.

He got jerked around buying a Duramax for over 2 months and ended up choking a restocking fee just to get some of his money back. (typical long story)

We ordered a longblock from GM on Friday.

If these guys are as bad as they seem why has someone not gone in to them and punched them in the face?

Seems to me that they are selling engines they do not have then they find them in a local junkyard, clean them up then sell them as warrenty.

Next time you see their add on Kijji just the "report a scam" button. I do it all the time when I see something fishy. You don't have to give any info either.

The guy with the duramax was in too deep before he ended up hearing rumors as to how bad RJs are. From the blow by blow I got as this was unfolding the guy is a real ****. Story sounds very similar most every time. My friend figured he might end up lucky and cut his losses if he actually came through with the proper engine, but 2 months of excuses is long enough. Got most of his money back but what a big hassle, and still left a sizable sum of money on the table for RJs to basically do nothing but avoid the phone for 2 months.

And he does deal in crap. The engine he got looked like it had been stored outside, and nothing was sealed up. It was kind of tied to a flimsy pallet the a fifth grader hammered together.

I rather buy a core engine and build my own engine. Fun and cheaper. What are you looking for? Maybe one of us can help with a decent engine. A few of us collect spare good engines.

RJ is very well known for selling used parts that have been hot tanked and spray can rebuilt.

Your deposit is used to buy the parts for the guy before you, RJ uses your money not theirs to supply parts. You don't get your stuff until the next guy pays his deposit and then if and when RJ can find something for you.

A few years ago when I thought I was going to need a new cylinder head I contacted them looking for parts. He had nothing in stock but parts were on the way but he couldn't give me a time but was more than willing to take a deposit so I was first in line when the shipment came in. I passed on that one and eventually it ended up I didn't need a new cylinder head.

About 4 months later, RJ called me and asked if I was up and running and mentioned that they had a buyer for my old head and was willing to pay good $$$ for it.

I didn't know it at the time but a co-worker of mine had contacted them looking for a 24v head for his truck. We can't prove it but we are both pretty certain that he would have got my old head if I had sold it to RJ, everything just seemed to consistent. RJ even told him the head was off a running local truck that was "upgraded" with an aftermarket head. My co-worker knew that there were no aftermarket heads available (at that time) so he walked away from them.

I wouldn't trust these guys as far as I could throw them! I've heard from a few people that have been burned by RJ.

He needs an "06 LLY" which is supoosed to be the same as an LBZ. That was part of the confusion. GM has so many versions of the Duramax it is stupid.

The long block is on the way from GM (weather permitting ). We considered fixing his core but he wanted to get up and running ASAP, which is ironic considering. At this point he is happy knowing it will be mostly all new parts. Reliable stocker is all he wants.

I noticed that they don't have any adds on Kijiji anymore but I do see VERY similar adds selling similar products for a new company called DFC. Anyone know if they are related?

$5k for a short block. Thats lots tons of money. I was thinking a complete fresh engine is worth about that much.

Clayh, curious how did you pay for a 03 SO piston? I priced out 6.7L piston for my 10 truck, cummins locally wanted $240 for a piston/sleeve/pin/rings. Was thinking about trying a VP SO piston for my 03 engine as the injector nozzles for both engines look very similar, the bowl is only slightly different. I can get a VP piston/pin/rings for $140.
