question

On a six speed (2006), does the transfer case and the transmission have a common fluid passage? I am going to be changing the transmission fluid and I would like to know if the fluid in the transfer case will drain aswell. Or is there a separate transfer case drain and fill plug location? And to confirm the trans. drain plug is on the bottom of the trans., and the fill is on the right side, about half way up? Mopar ATF 4 fluid I believe? Thank you for the advice, ksi.

PS. Is there going to be a Calgary GTG at Tims on Sunday? Thanks again.

They should be separate. The transfer case takes ATF+4 and if memory serves me right the drain should be on the bottom left of the case (facing the rear of the truck). As for the G56, I'm not too sure what they take for fluid.

G56 takes ATF+4 as well, and there is seals at both ends of the tranny, and one on the input of the t-case, so if everything is as it should, there should be no fluid transfer.

This info is from the amsoil website, the G56 takes 5.6L of ATF, depending on which t-case your truck has, around 2L of ATF. The older NV5600 took 5W30 trans oil.

Is the oil ATF+ or ATF? There is a slight difference in the oils. The ATF+ has the friction modifier, the ATF doesn't. I would that for what your doing, it wouldn't make any difference. I run ATF in my tranny and ATF+ in my transfer case, but I can't see why the ATF couldn't work for the transfer case as well.

I believe the fluid is ATF, I will check and let you know. My next task is to find a cheap 14mm hex head socket to modify (shorten) so that I can remove the fill plug on the trans. My exhaust pipe runs too close to the trans to use my current socket with a ratchet. I told my wife that my pipe is just toooooo big baby... she laughed at me ... women.

K.s.i- You put in one of those colt cams right? Which cam did you put in and what you think of the camshaft? I'm trying to figure out which can to run in my rebuilt 24V engine. I'm not fly cutting my pistons, this time around, so I need a good max lift, duration camshaft, that doesn't require the pistons to be cut.
