Pressure washer

Been thinking about getting a pressure washer...looked at a few with the 5 and 6HP honda engine rated at 3000 psi and 2.5 GPM...

But found something more powerful...A industial washer with a 13hp honda engine and a Cat pump..Right now I don't have any details, its being shipped from another store. Its a used unit about 5 years old...The fellow who had it used some dirty fuel and plugged the carb...Once fixed the fellow never picked it up...So the busniness is selling it to recover costs..They tested the washer and everthing works great, they said the thing really has torque.I will be able to test it before I buy it..

Until I see it and get the specs..Roughy these system are around the 4000 psi and 4 GPM...If everything works..What would be a good offer on this unit besides free??

Would $350 to $400 be a good price or is that to high??

4000PSI----Gees Dave---you want to take that fancy paint of your ride, make sure its adjustable regulator as my father in-law has a Sears 2000PSI.At full crank up it will remove paint/stain from any deck and can damage the wood if used to close, even "pit concrete".If you can get it for under 4 bills seems like good deal,---does it have an hour meter on it???.DW

Princess Auto has a 13hp Honda 4GPM @ 3,600 psi washer for $1700 as well as a same spec washer for $1100. They both have the desired Triplex pumps.

The higher priced one is more commercial and uses a belt drive to run the pump at half speed to give it some more life by reducing vibrations from the drive motor. Pump drive is the only difference in price.

On the lower end, everyone pretty much sells the same stuff. I just went through this a couple of months ago looking for a pressure washer myself. Ended up with a 5 hp Honda 2.5GPM @ 2500 psi unit out of Peavey Mart in Red Deer.

At the least, you want an axial pump. It's more mid level for home owner/light commercial rated at about 500 hours use. For heavier, you want a Triplex pump, rated for heavy commercial at about 800 hours.

Tips, hoses, wands, etc are pretty much generic among the washers. You can change up or down as you please with different tips for various jobs.

Price wise, I paid $500 for mine complete so if you can get this one your looking at for about the same price, I wouldn't hesitate.

Sounds like a deal. Cat pumps are not cheap.

Just bought a Karcher from Costco - 3000 psi with Honda engine for $309 marked down from $400.

That one seems like a good deal Dave - make sure you can turn it down as was already mentioned.

Going to take a look at it today...It does have a pressure regualtor and its own soap dispensor..A little overkill ,but better to have to much than not enough...

GPM is key to getting a good clean effect. High pressure and low flow is just frustrating. Sounds like what Jeff got at PM in RD was a good deal, or the unit Shane got.

I wasn't aware of this until I was looking at pressure washers but they are actually rated by Cleaning Power Units or CPU's. And it's not by the gallons per minute (GPM).

It's really just simple math but it's GPM multiplied by psi.

A pressure washer with 2800 psi and 2 GPM is rated at 5600 CPU's where as a pressure washer with only 2400 psi and 3 GPM's is rated at 7200 CPU's. The "lower" pressure machine has 25% more cleaning power than the higher pressure machine. A typical garden hose is about 6 GPM and 10 psi, which gives is a rating of 60 CPU's. A commercial grade pressure washer can be 4 GPM at 4000 psi which rates out as 16,000 CPU's. Big difference!

I often wondered how they rated, if they even did, pressure washers and this little bit of info opened my eyes. My little old electric piece of crap is nothing to the new gas powered one but at least it doesn't blow paint off when I'm washing something.

What I was told is to get a rate flow of no less than 2.5 GPM...The higher you get the more cleaning and damage you could do....

A regulator is a nice option to reduce the output on things you don't want to kill..
