Picking new motor up tommorrow, which turbo should I use?
So I'm confused, some say use my HO injectors in the SO others say not to due to differences in the combustion chambers......
Here are some pics of the HO with the head off and SO in the back of the truck. Sorry the pics are crappy, camera died as I was taking them.

Picked up a used SO motor(98K), totally complete. Had to reuse my HO wiring harness, there were a few small differences, my AC comp(the one on it had a siezed clutch), PS pump(the donor one got wacked somewere along the way), and the oil pan pickup tube(the donor truck was wrecked when it went of the end of a road and into an embankment, diff came up into pan). No idea if it will put out 250 or 350hp, I used the computer that came with the SO motor but it had the same part number as the HO motor so who knows....
Engine is assembled with a new SB 450HP clutch, new rear main seal and oil pan gasket. Sitting on a hook waiting to go in.....

I bet its the same motor, just different computer program in the ECM. You should take pictures for the rest to follow. You could pull the head off the new motor and compare, worst case. If the motor out of the truck, I bet you put a head gasket on in no time. How heavy is the motor? Nice project buddy.
Motor is probably about 1200# all done up(clutch on, alt,ps,a/c...).
My hoist extends to different lengths, the farther out the lower the capacity. Farthest out setting reduces capacity to 1/2ton(1000#). It lifted the new engine out of the back of the truck ok but there was no clutch on it or clutch housing or accessories.
All done up ready to drop in it could not lift it. Lifted fine on the 1ton setting put the reach wasn't quite long enough.
BTW the engine will go in and out without dropping the tranny but its a bugger to do. Oil pan and pickup must come off as well as valve cover and #6 injector and rockers. Romoving the starter helps as well but I did it without. I'm guessing an auto would be easier as it doesn't have the shaft to clear.
Right now its bolted to the tranny and all the underside work is done except for installing the oil pan. Then I'll drop it into the mounts, tighten them up, install injector, rockers and cover, then start on that mess of wiring and then every other little detail....
Was hoping to be done today but I don't think its gonna happen.

OH by the way, can the hydraulic clutch system be bled? At one point I accidently pushed the pedal with the clutch and engine out. I didn't pop the piston right out or lose any fluid but now the pedal feels really soft.

Well looks like I'll be using the turbo off the HO engine. The seals in the one off the SO donor engine are blown and bypassing oil. GRRR!!!! I didn't want to use my original as there MUST of been some crap go thru it with all that piston damage. However when I inspected it, it looked ok. Guess I'll find out!
Clay, you having fun yet buddy? I just dropped my fuel tank out my truck and the pick-up is full of sand/gravel. Dodge told me that they don't sell my pick-up anymore, and I had to upgrade to a new style, its a pick-up system and lift pump. That's wonderful, and great, but I have a Fass150 system. Its, only for stock trucks. Man, I'm mad, as now my fass comes off, but happy that I know whats wrong. You have a manual for you're truck? 1200 is a pretty good amount of weight, my hoist would just give-up. I tried to unbolt my fuel tank support, the bolts just snapped off, all four. I had Dodge put in the tranny, and the guy just must have blasted in the bolts until they couldn't go anymore. Know I have to put in new bolts. I want to drive this truck just like did before everything went south. I'm thinking about drilling out the inlet/outlet of the filter. 5/16th fuel line isn't enough to flow fuel to support any decent HP. Maybe I just put everything back to stock.

I'm having about as much fun as you but I think I'll have mine running before you do!
There was an aftermarket kit on here somewhere to replace to stock pickup I believe. Straw something.....???
Cann't you just clean the crap out of your pickup? Any idea how gravel got in?

Its the Vulcan Draw straw I was thinking of......
Also here is a writeup on gutting the pump in a Grand Cherokee, not sure if it would help you or not.

I can look around for parts, but at some point you have to move. Dodge has an upgrade kit, which replaces the fass system. I'll pick it up tomorrow. I have to my stock parts again like the filter unit. I'll run a 1/2 line from the tank to the filter housing. From there the stock lines go back on. 5/16in lines, I don't think it will be enough to feed the beast. On ebay there are a few outfits that sell rebop units, but it this upgrade kit might be the fix/maybe not. I'll see, I have messed around with the fuel pick-up before, and I just gave up. Now I have about 10 gallons of diesel that has some trash in it. Tomorrow, I have to see if I can recycle the fuel. I don't want that stuff going back thru my new cleaned up system. I just don't the problems that can come out of putting more trash in my fuel system. I just hope that this is my fix and I can start to drive the heck out of this truck. Hopefully you're driving you're truck before me, as you'll need a head start. Cheers, buddy and good luck.
If that system is just their retro kit, skip it. Get the draw straw from Vulcan, or I have my stock pickup and return at home that you can use. No pump in there. FASS is a better unit than what dodge will give you, and you already have it too.
Why did dodge drop the tank when they put your tranny in? You should prop your bed up instead of dropping the tank. A lot less messy. Thats what I am doing. Lifted one side with the engine hoist, then blocked it up. Easy as pie.

You have to remove the plate to get the tranny out. They just blasted in the bolts with an air gun. I've tried the draw straw before, on hard braking, the VP goes dry and with low fuel levels. There is a valve inside the pick-up system that keep fuel inside. You rip that off, the pump runs out of fuel. I wanted to build a pick-up tube that hangs on the bottom of the tank, kinda like a stock car oil pick-up system. Removing the fuel tank isn't fun stuff. There is lots of engineering in the stock pick-up system that hard to improve on. Installing baffles in the tank or running a bed tank would fix the problem. The draw straw flow tons more fuel than stock, just if you don't that much fuel in the tank, you get more air than fuel. On full tank, its a beautiful fix. Anything less than 1/4 tank, it isn't.
Those factory repalcement in tank lift pumps aren't any good like Tate was saying Mike. The only reason guys end up putting them in is if the truck is still under warranty. They keep the old pick up assembly and replace it when the waranty runs out and go to a FASS or Vulcan set up.
