Photo Radar
Photo Radar
My wife got a nice letter from the Alberta Gov. Someone
was driving my wifes car 86 km/h in a 70 km/h zone in Whitecourt. I am still giggling because it does not look like my wifes hair and she says someone with a big fat head is driving that is not her. Anyways...... she has been fined 103 dollars. Is it worth her time to be in court on the time specified because she was not driving? Wonder who that fat headed person was driving?

I got a photo radar ticket in 03. I knew a police officer back then and what he told me was to not pay it unless the police showed up and delivered it to your door because they can't prove you got the ticket otherwise. Anyways they did deliver to my door eventually so I payed it.
They are not ticketing the driver but the registered owner, thus there is only a fine and no points involved since they can't prove who was driving. S o i don't think you would have much of a case in court.
I personally think everyone should go to court for any ticket and contest, speak your word, do what you have to do, court is a bargaining center, you might be able to lower the fine, or donate it to a charity at least, when you go in on your date talk to them first and (not to the judge but before that) say you will plead guilty if you don't have to go to trial and pay something like 1/2 the fine, they will take that and discuss it. you have nothing to loose worst that can happen is you pay the fine in full amount which you will have to do if you don't show up. just create doubt in their minds, proper functioning of the photo radar, last time tested , etc..etc jmo

I've heard if you go to court and admit it was you speeding they can give you demerits. Any how I went once to fright a ticket and it wasn't worth it. Would be worth it to lower the demerits but i'd rather just pay a photo radar ticket and be done with it. The best thing ever is a radar detector, i had like 12 demerits so i bought one, i think its a passport, Its saved me soo many tickets. lol on the way back from the blackout i was trying to pass a ford wich i did a few times quite succesfully, then we stoped to pee and ten min latter buddie in the ford was pulled over but My radar told me to slow down so I never got caught speeding.
i too got one earlier in the summer.
you some options:
1) pay it now and forget about it
2) put it off and take a $20 late charge
3) pay at next time you register your vehicle (it will show up at the registry office and you will be unable to re-register without paying it. $20 late fee also applies here if vehicle registration is after payment date)
4) go to the ticket office and ask to see the photo on the computer (say you lost the ticket and would like a reprint). when they bring the photo up, ask them to zoom out ALL THE WAY - if any other vehicles are in the photo heading the same direction you can say it was the other car speeding which caused the both of you to get a ticket
5) look for ANYTHING on the license plate portion of the photo that could aid you in arguing a different letter/number/province etc.
6) simply go into court (if it's worth the inconvenience) and say it was not you driving and hope for the best. some judges will cut it down just because you put in the time & effort to show up . . .
good luck.

Lets face it - its a tax.
Im considering getting some of that stuff you spray on your plate - they sell it at JB Powercenters. Anyone have any experience with it?
(not that I really ever speed - but its pretty aggervating to get the ticket in the mail)

Your eyes must be getting old
I use to get a photo every couple months, been over 2 years now. They are stupidly easy to spot, and so predictable, if you watch for them, pretty easy to not get the tickets anymore. And I take roads were they can't be. Like 178st vs 170st. Almost no places to put photo on 178st, and never laser there either.
A radar detector would be nice! Almost got a ticket for 160km just before leduc that would of been bad

On a side note, the photo radar they use in St. Albert, they park behind the those signs on trailers they park on the grassy part of the boulevard, sitting there in their little jeeps. Sneaky buggers. Good thing I was never in a hurry to get to work.
i got a TICKET in the mail from an intersection 6 hours from my house for my chevy s-10 and the morons sent me a picture of a red honda civic I got it taken care of but what a bunch of big brother crap I say if you cant catch me you cant ticket me

Head down to the cop shop and ask to see the actual photo, not the one they sent you.
I have had 5 photo radar tickets sent to me over the years and have gotten out of everyone of them because of something else in the photo. They have a tendency to crop the photo's to eliminate items. I have had the bumper of another car in one picture, a guy on a bicycle, etc, etc.
If it's far enough out to the edge of the picture, they will crop it out because in most cases, tickets are not contested.
It's worth the time to see the actual picture.
