Anyone close to Red Deer have a bore scope?
Just curious as to who has rebuilt a 6 speed, who can rebuild a six speed and how much beer will it cost.
I just found a piece of gear in the sump and now need to investigate a little further. Hence looking for a borescope.
As for the rebuilding end of things. I think $4000 to rebuild one of these is kinda pricey. But I have never taken one of these apart. Not sure what toosl are required etc.
I am thinking I will have to replace all bearings and probelly gears.
What effect would having AtF fluid in the NV5600 have on it's components.
Thanks..

How bad is it?
Have you pulled off the PTO covers to inspect it?
ATF is not the right fluid for a NV5600, I hope it hasn't been in long.
Perhaps a fill of the correct fluid (I use Redline MTL in my NV5600) will improve things....
A NV5600 takes 4.5L of oil.. I was just at Mopac picking up 5L of Red Line MTL the other day.. $12/L.

It has had the ATF in it since I bought the thing last year, Seems the dealership really did not do their inspection.
It is just a forward part of a gear about 1/8" wide and 3/4" long. I did not find this part myself the tranny shop did.
Next step is to check it all myself and see if I can find the chipped gear, I have not removed the PTO access cover yet, how much visibilty does one have of the gears when removed?
Would a rigid boroscope work or would a flexible be required?

Thats good to know. You might get some retribution out of this. If it looks like a front off a gear, it may be a syncro that dropped.

I know Joe feels different but it may be worth mentioning that I didnt have very good luck with the Redline MTL - it caused me to have a grind going into third gear. Might be because my tranny is older and has more miles on it. Life has been good with the Amsoil stuff though.
I tried both the Redline and Amsoil and like Evil said, the shift quality is just not quite the same using Redline. I've been Amsoil ever since and shift quality is great.
On my drain intervals, there isn't much for particles either which is a good thing.

Interesting, I've never tried Amsoil oil of any kind ever... You guys must mean the Amsoil Synchromesh manual trans oil spec'ed for the NV5600?

I've used Redline MTL for over 20 years in every manual trans that I have owned that specified it. I like the fact it's available everywhere & it's reasonably priced.
Currently all our vehicles have Redline MTL in their trannies:
T5 5 speed in my 5.0L Mustang, 6 speed manual transaxle in wifey's FWD Honda & in my truck's NV5600. Never had an issue with it in any vehicle.
Sure I would give up a beer or 2 for it..
Look me up if you are ever in Calgary....Or maybe the tentative dyno GTG next month in Red Deer...

Talked to Dodge today, they are going to give me a call in the morning to let me in on what they are going to do if anything. I am not being optimistic on this issue with them but who knows.
It is funny because when I phoned around to the different Dodge dealerships today asking about the flud required in a 05 3500 diesel 6speed Manual with a NV5600 I got the ATF is required. No hesitation, right from the techs themselves. Then after further questioning they all said that I required Chryslers special tranny fluid. So they are confused which is a bad thing.
So if you have had your NV5600 serviced from a Dealership from Edmonton down to Calgary then please check your tranny fluid.
