Installing Cabin Air Filter

Because it is dusty in Alberta.........

I found some info about this mod on another forum. Here is a copy of that write up:

As many of you know, Dodge decided that our 4th Gen RAMS do not need cabin air filtration.

I disagree.

Fortunately enough, it is very easy and rather inexpensive to add this feature to our RAMS.

TOOLS NEEDED:

(1) Sharp boxcutter or X-acto

PARTS NEEDED:

(1) Filter box 'lid'. Dodge part number 68052292AA (About $11)
(1) Cabin Air Filter. Dodge part number 5058693AA, OR, Purolater C25869 ($7), Hastings HAAF1328, or Wix 24578

(These parts are all "OEM" for a 2010 Dodge Avenger, Caliber, Compass, etc. They will not be found by searching in any parts book under 'Dodge Ram'!)

Step 1. Remove lower glove box by gently pulling inward on both sides where the 'ears' are.

Step 2. Locate the filter slot area, which is shaped like a short, fat "T". Using the sharp tool of your choice, cut out the area just inside of the "T". You do not need to cut out the lower 'leg' of the "T", just go straight across. (Refer to pic)

Step 3. Slide in filter with airflow arrow pointing down. The filter, when properly installed, will protrude outside of the slot some. It will not be 'flush'.

Step 4. 'Snap' on the lid. You will need to press on the little 'ears' on each end of the lid (marked with blue tape in pic) until you hear a 'click'. This 'locks' the lid into place.

Step 5. Re-install glove box, and done!

The only "hard' part is trimming out the slot, but the material is pretty thin,,, Just take your time,,,

Future servicing of this filter is super easy!!! Takes about 2 minutes, most of which will be spent emptying the glovebox!

There are pics in RAM 2500-3500 HD Discussion, New 6.7 owner with some questions...

I coud not repost them here.

Not to many 4th gen guys here on dtr. I have done that mod. Works nice, helps to keep the interior clean.

Have you done the delete on the dpf? H&S has the best programmer.

How many miles you have on your truck? I have 20000km on mines, so far no issues and the truck has worked very well. The stock tires aren't so good for snow, but what stock truck is.

Welcome to the AB forum.

I have 7000k on mine, got it back at the end of October. I am very happy with it and no problems either. Have not done any of the deletes yet, gonna leave it as it for the rest of the winter. We will see what happens come spring. ) I agree with you that the stock tires suck ***, but like you said most do. I will be installing my filter this week.

have been keeping track of my milage by hand and I an getting 15.5-16 mpg (figured with a canadian gallon) and that is with all of the winter idling.

Sounds normal. You do lots of towing? The DPF seems to require more regs during the winter, probably more particulant from the colder ambient, so fuel mileage will drop. Prior to delete I was 15-16mpg, after delete I'm 18-20mpg. The oil stays clean for the entire 10000km service interval. The oil gets very dirty and thick without doing the deletes.

I want to upgrade my tires on the 10, but I just drive my older truck as it has decent winter tires.

I have a 28 foot fifth wheel and a 18 foot boat that i drag around for most of the summer and fall.
Did you do the deletes yourself or were they done at a shop. Do you have a good service manager somewhere or did you just say screw it to the warranty.
Me i am on the fence as i have an extended warranty as well.

The dodge warranty means nothing to me. I'll fix my own truck. I did my own delete. I did mine last spring, I'm money ahead now, just on the fuel savings. Nothing wrong with the truck if run it in stock form.

I run my truck on stock power levels and my truck doesn't regen. That shouldn't hurt anything. So far its been my best truck so far, done everything I wanted and more. Tows my RV very very nice in stock form. No issues. I really like the truck so far.

I welded up my own delete pipe. Just used 4in exhaust pipe and cut a 3/8 flange out of plate steel. I'm using the stock exhaust system, as the stock muffler is a flow thru design 4in muffler. Still very quiet.
