I was going to get the wrist pins gun drilled. Once we get the rods off, we can put together a plan. I found a shop to do the oil cooling jets modification that I have in mind. I guess that its pretty common stuff for the older motors to break off a jet, things you make you go hmm...

will taking rotating weight off actually reduce torque or will it just push the high end horses up? And from what i remember of my rods they have just a flat bottom on the caps as rage there said.
and as for your 8 and some pound rod discovery, thats why i don't ever want to go over the factory rev limit.

Are you gunna be milling wieght off your pistons? I'd like to see how drilled out rods would hold up as well. You know you want to mike.

Won't be gun drilling rods for weight savings, just for oiling.

The CR rod has a smoother finish to it. These older rods are have more beef to them and are truely forged pieces.

Of course the crank will have to balanced for the weight changes.
the older 12.7 liter series 60 Detroits do not have oil feed to the small end. they are splash oil from the nozzle too.

I possibly might/maybe I plan to cut a few pistons up first to see how thick everything is. Might only have the fly cuts this year, I'm running stock pistons for now.

Before I forget, what colour you guys think we should paint the motor? Right now I'm think ford blue or the cummins red. Thoughts guys? Might limit the speed of the truck if you paint it blue, but we have to please the ford purists abit on this build.

If you look at the bottom of the piston where the rod goes, there are four ports to get oil from the cylinder walls. The oil rings, squeeze off the oil off the cylinder from the nozzles. Probably the biggest mod that we are doing to this engine is to the cooler jets. Do the oil cooler jets right, no engine coolant is required, at least enough cooling for 5-10mins of operation. I take a few pictures when I get the rods off and cut one or two the pistons.

Piston crown thickness is thick for a reason and so you have to be carefull on what to remove and what not to remove, after all this is a diesel engine and the combustion occurs inside the piston bowl and I plan on using NOS

About twice what Kev does and about half what Ellerton uses.

Its already that color. I rather have a shiny CTD motor/twins set-up. I hoping the winter we can paint the truck, when we are bored and out of projects and nearly out of beer

No the Block is all one color right now, to match the truck with the doors and bed sides and front end, it would have to be lots of colors...

I suppose we should paint the mounts then too, but they should be black so people don't notice them.

I want to chrome those baby, that's nice fab work buddy. The workmanship thats putting this truck together is pretty decent. I want everyone else to see that as well. Watching those videos on comp D a newly built ranger today made my day. Now I really want to get this ride built.
