My wife bought me a new consumer reports Canada for 2011 vehicles. The Toyota brand does seem to be extremely reliable.

I went to the ford dealer and looked about. The f150 is for sure my second choice. But looking on the forums and and consumer reports and EPA websites for fuel economy the Ford is still not that great. Guess we will never get a truck with decent fuel economy. Now in the end, with all the research I have done I am still going with the Tacoma I think.

I feel like a kid, asking all you fine folks here for advice and then not listening and doing what I want anyways!. But you guys sure are making me think a lot harder about a f150. A test drive of each might be in order. Maybe the f150 will sway me after a test drive.

That truck is awesome. Even normal left hand drive! Where or how is something like that imported? I would buy one of those in an instant if it was available in Canada. Hmmmmmm. 25k usd. About 40k by the time the dust settles and I get it here to Canada...... Price of a new taco anyways!

But I am way to much of a chicken and too suspicious of Internet scams to part with my money. I would spend like 2 months researching and covering all my bases before any money left my grubby little hooves. Purchasing, taxes, border crossing, licensing, insurance, etc. Sounds like a nightmare.

a freind of mine bought a 2010 f150 and it got very good fuel mileage. 22 23 mpg between here and edmonton... which I think is pretty good.

Go Ford... company I'm with currently is running GM/Chevy 1500 4x4, they are hard on fuel, hard on operators, hard on parts (when you can get them)
Guys are sharing trucks as so many are out of commision, waiting on parts or getting diagnosed...

Second choice ... if your not loading up a a bbl or two of engine oil would be the ridgeline... ran into "Holman Senior" a few times with his ridgeline... that thing was larger then I would have imagined... (for a Honda)

Well its good to see some fellow field operators on the site!! I operate around Thorsby....I would probably go for the Ford or GM.....Parts and turnaround time will be better....Tacoma's do not do well if you load them with any weight...Even a barrel of compressor oil will severely sage the rear!

Cool found the old guy working That guy works almost 7 days a week. I on the other hand don't work.

My dad has never an issue with any of his ridgelines truck. Cheap and trades them in every three years. Only thing it really needs is a decent of tires. Get mid 20's for fuel mileage. My 08 1500 dodge was a good truck, it just wouldn't survive the gravel roads, I liked the two year leases. To me its comes down to price and what you're doing with the truck. I tow stuff and haul heavy stuff, so I have to run a diesel. A gas pot can't tow anything heavy.

Wow, as mentioned it's amazing that truck is left hand drive.

It's interesting & i'm sure it would look way better with some real wheels & tires plus dumping all those goofy graphics, roll bar, roof rack, etc...

It likely gets incredible fuel mileage but I'm not quite old enough to get excited about a 4500 lb truck with a 140HP engine. I may never get old enough for that!

My vote's for the GMC, but I'm kind of biased since I just bought an 08 Chevy 1500 last night. I test drove a 2011 Tacoma TRD crew cab right before that one and it was nice, but they've got a premium on them. I just didn't think the truck was worth what they want for them. I drive in a lot of the same kind of conditions you do and I felt the Chevy would do the job better.

Yeah it would be nice to see these diesel trucks make it in North America. I think were still 4-5years out before its mainstream here in North America. I work over in England frequently and about 80% or better are diesels. They're also getting 60mpg and haul a$$.

Must have cost that guy a fortune getting that diesel in the States. Yeah the graphics and tire/wheels would have to go. I kinda like the roll bar/roof rack gives it some character. Good luck in whatever you decide on.

Ooooof! 25% duty charge of the purchase price. You would be close to that 40K mark by the time you got it home.
