You just got to put a decent platform under that smoken diesel engine. How far in HP you planning on going? Maybe you shouldn't talk to me I have a bad habit of wreaking stuff. I give you ride once she's together, it might change your mind.

i know i'll have to upgrade the tranny sooner or later. i don't want to go ridiculous with hp - yet. i just want to be able to surprise others on the road when i pass on the highway or take off from a red light. . .

i wouldn't mind coming out your way to check out your truck, and maybe get that correction from you. it sounds like you will be busy with your tranny this weekend. when is good for you? and what type of beer do you drink?

thanks david for the tire size correction. i have yet to see if it stayed, but my shift point speeds seem slightly different so i think it stayed. i will confirm once i test it with cruise on the highway and compare it with another friend's tom tom. . .

ok guys, just a quick recap:
i recently changed my tires and went up to 295's from 265's. i then started this thread to see if anyone could help me out with a recalibration. DWeiler raised his hand and said come on over and we'll try a SMARTY. so i met up with him at his place and he did the re-program for me as we chatted about our trucks (i was mesmerized by his). i thought everything went well when it seemed as though my shift points were different than prior to the recal. it must have been my mind playing tricks on me like a placebo medicine though because tonight i borrowed my friend's tom tom and hit some secondary hwy's at various speeds on cruise control only to find that my speedo was still out. i used the tom tom back in late january on a trip to whitefish (after the tire change but before the SMARTY update) and my speedo read 4 km/h slower than i was actually traveling according to tom tom. i tried it again tonite with the same result (ie. 100 km/h speedo = 104 km/h actual).

so my final conclusion is that the smarty recalibration does not stay with the truck, unfortunately.

if you're thinking maybe the tom tom is not 100% accurate you may be right but i still had the exact same result before and after the smarty update. the tom tom may not be 100% accurate but it is consistent and that's what i am getting at.

so thanks to all for the advice/input & offers to help. especially thanx to DWeiler for the use of the smarty, it's just too bad it didn't work out for us.

later,
jason

Yep, only on the Catcher softwares does it stay. Have to reprogram it everytime you go back to stock too. Go to the dealer or buy a Smarty. After going to the dealer, my speedo is dead on with my Garmin.

Yep. I wasn't expecting anything free. I've only bought a couple oil filters and a fuel filter from them, they don't know me from any other bum off the street.

Can't tell you exactly when I will get to the city next-but I have a DRBIII in my tool repertoire. I've never tried to program tire sizing with it so it would be a learning experience for both of us-but if you can hang on a couple weeks or so I can bring it in and hook up with you if you want....

Thanks
Jason

If you have a DRB, it's easy, just go into the tire size menu and select other, it will ask for rotations per mile, punch it in and done.

I've watched my dealer do it enough times, takes about 2 minutes.
