Front Driveshaft?

Anybody know where I can find a flipping front driveshaft for my truck? This is to replace the one that dropped at 110 km/h, dug into the pavement, detached from the CV end and spun into the ditch east of Olds. On the bright side, a 271 t/c will withstand that with only minor cracks here and there. I've been beating the bushes for the last 6 weeks trying to come up with one-so far the two I've gotten that I were assured to fit a 6 speed were way short . '01 2500 4x4 with the apparently rare NV5600 . Would like to find a decent used one as I plan to upgrade down the road sometime to something a little heavier. A new one from Chrysler is absolutely berserk, and a reman from Pat's is fairly dear once you throw in the core. I need to lay under a DR truck with a tape measure to see if I could yank the front flange from one of them and fit it in there I guess, to at least give me more options. I'm heading out to the west country this weekend for some fishing and camping and 4 wheel drive would be a nice option to have back.

Thanks
Jason

Jason,

I don't know of any driveshafts out there but I'll get whatever measurements you need off mine if it helps.

Tell me what you need.

Jeff

Thanks for the offer Jeff-I finally found online measurements for the BR style trucks (our body style) so I can confirm the next one is correct . I want to get a measurement off an '03 and up to see if I can make one of them work to expand my search a little. Wish I had been recording when things went south-have any idea how loud of a bang that makes? I can't believe the case survived the rest of the trip-I drove to Olds, checked the fluid (was still right up), ran to Rocky, left it parked for 5 days, then crawled under right before I left, filled it again and drove home.

Pathetic thing is I have another CTD in the stable now-pretty much a twin to yours (except a 5 speed)that needs some TLC. It has no 4x4 either-the PO let the left side wheel joint disintegrate to the point it tore the ears out of both sides of the shaft. I debated putting rails in it for the 5th but I'm not gaining anything really other than pulling with a truck I have less than 1000 km of experience with, so I think I'll run my silver one and cross my fingers that the motor stays with me.

I have the front driveshaft for an 01 dodge 2500 five speed 4X4, NV4500, I just don't have the CV joint (the part that mates with the Tcase). Let me know if you want. It look pretty similar to my 02 auto. If it works its yours. I just getting my original front driveshaft rebuilt right now. The CV was almost done and would have done the same thing as your did. Its a common failure I guess.

Try this guy at 403-938-3888. He is in Okotoks and is always parting out some sort of Dodge truck. I got my HE351 off him and he seemed like a good guy. Don't think he does internet....

Thanks for the offer Mike-5 speed one is too short-actually shorter than an automatic according to what I found. Don't know why it's so hard to root out a 6 speed one. Clay, I will call that guy-I have seen his # before in Kijiji and Bargain Finder ads. Thanks for the reminder.

Yep he's SW of town there and often advertises on Kijji.
Been there a LONG time. I bought the D60 rear diff thats currently in my Jeep off of him 15 years ago.

Tell him the guy that bought the turbo sent you and that its working great for me. He should remember me, we BS'ed for over an hour.

Still no dice-all the guy at Aldersyde has is 5 speed and automatic ones-same as I already have. Gonna measure my brother's 3G when it comes home to see if I can wedge one of those under there-seems like they're a little more prevalent.

If you find one with the right ends but is to long or short you can have it re-tubed to what you need for much cheaper than getting a whole new one built.

Apparently by the jobber cataloging I have found the tube length from weld to weld for a 6 speed is 19-3/4" , and 32-7/8" center to center. If you have one that measures up to that laying around, I'll pedal my fat butt into the city again and buy it from you.

Thanks

I may have to break down and get one retubed. I'd like to find a bolt in one relatively cheap, as #1-I plan to upgrade to a 1350 CV at some point in time, and #2-I'm currently on the unemployment line so the $ are a little bit of an issue right now. If I could find a left side axle shaft for my '02, I'd put 5th wheel rails in it and finish out the year.
