Engine build
Engine build
Thought that I would start a new thread on this. Here is what I have planned, or semi planned for the new engine so far... any feedback is appreciated, or anything I might be over looking too. This is my first Diesel engine build from the ground up... done a few gassers, but never a ground up diesel,, Im excited!
So far for sures
Girdle kit (includes arp studs) from Dr P
Engine Diaper from Dr P
ARP 625's
Head Freeze plug kit (taps and puts pipe plugs in all the freeze plugs in the head
Rods (not 100% sure if I am going billet or 24v peened and treated..
Pistons (same, not sure if going aftermarket or with Marine ones
Crank, stock, balanced (any ideas here would be good)
Block, O-ringed
Waterpump,, either going with electric, or going to clip the stock one, leaning towards the electric one, as I can leave it running between rounds
Big Twins,, (Mike, you and I will brain storm on this)
Head, port and polish,
Cam,, either Hamilton or Greg Houge same with pushrods
Anything else you can think of?
I also am looking for a tranny blanket. I am also thinking about doing a custom tranny cooler too,, not sure yet what to do,, looking for ideas on this too.

Mechanical lift pump.
Trans cooler will be needed with that blanket, might have to make some supports to keep the blanket up off the trans a few inch's to keep some air flow in there and the temps down.
EDIT: I also vote for the after market rods. With the inability of the CR to rev at this point in the game the only way to make more power is to make more torque, the CR already makes huge torque, and torque is what kills rods, not horsepower.

I have a fass 150 150 right now,, but I am going to talk to airdog and see what they can do a 200 for. Im thinking about some kind of trick in cab/box cooler system for it..
Is there a programmer out there that eliminates the 3rd "torque" injection pulse? That is probably whats sending rods out the side of the block. High Peak pressures already at 1200+ HP then you are adding fuel/pressure ATDC with the rod not vertical, bend and break...
Like was said in the other thread, there have been a lot of electric water pumps that have failed in a very short time. I would keep everything mechanical that you can. Lift pump wouldn't be a bad idea either, like a mitusa pump.
Don't forget about getting your cage done. No point in being able to run 9's when you can't do it more than once before getting kicked off the track.

Drag racing.
Yes I havent forgotten about the roll cage... the biggest thing I like about the electric pump is just the ability to run between rounds without having the engine running.

Should be able to get rid of that heat exchanger on the side of the block then. Put it in the box with an aux fan on it.
My espar might weigh 5 pounds empty. Its just pricey. But I haven't priced out an electric pump, maybe its not too bad in comparison.

140 bucks for a electric pump,, cheap like borscht... I was thinking about getting the biggest tranny cooler I can find, mounting it in the box with a big electric fan blowing air through it
I work for the largest Espar dealer in North America. That is an expensive route to go.
If the direct replacement electric water pumps are failing, look at a remote one. There are thousands of bracket racers out there that dd there street / strip cars with electric water pumps with out issue.
Edit: I love the tranny cooler idea!

Only the Bosch Motorsports ecu's at this time, at least that I am aware of.
