Dealership offer

I have dealership offereing to buy my truck for top dollar and get me into a 07or newer truck for a good price. They are saying that they have a company trying to buy up as many 04.5 and 05s as they can. It is a dealership that I have dealt with in the past. Any of you guys heard of this?

Not sure what happens around Alberta, but I had an uncle near Chicago as a Ford dealer. They sometimes find info from resellers that there is a demand in different areas for specific vehicle and want as many used ones as quick as possible.

Truth is, they say your getting top buck, but not, they need to make money. AND they will make some on the one they sell you. But they sometimes gamble on making hundreds each off of many instead of thousands off of a few.

Does Kelly Blue Book gives you prices in your area ? Worth looking into for your trucks value, and on the one they want to sell you. Then play by ear and if your comfortable with the end deal, go for it.

Consider, to get a dependable truck, taking it to an independent mechanic. Someone not associated with the dealer. Cost a few buck but can save you a lot. Also check your insurance agent for you insurance cost. I was shocked once when I bought a new vehicle and found out the insurance premium after. Heck, it was like a house payment.

Getting "top" dollar and walking away with a cheque is one thing, but to step into another truck, they will just bleed you of your "top" dollar very quickly.

Dealerships are there to make money like everyone else especially in a resell situation like this. Profit comes anyway they can get it and you will pay their price for it regardless of what they supposedly give you for your truck.

If you can take a cheque and walk away, I would say go for it otherwise, tread carefully.

I know to many guys who went down this road and got burned in the end when they signed the paperwork for their new truck.

The offer they talked about over the phone was to buy a 07 for $30s ish, and give me top doller for my truck. I told them I needed a long box quad cab.

I show up, they have a short box quad cab for $45,000 I said no deal.
Then they show me a 08 quad cab LB for $41,995. With 70,000km (43495 miles).

Then they offer me $10,000 on my truck 05 QC/LB with 314,000km (195,110miles).

After spending a few hours with them telling me how they have to make a buck and so on. I lay it out for them, I owe $20,000 on my truck, they will pay me $10g, I will still owe $10g, their truck costs $44g out the door. Add another $10g for what I would owe and I have a $54g bill for a used truck.

Or I could spend $30g and rebuild my motor, tranny diffs and still have a better truck then what they are trying to sell me.

We talk back and forth. Then I ask them if you were me what would you do? They said buy the newer truck. I told them move $6g on your price of your truck and I will sell. Have not heard back from them. Lol

$54k huh?

I like to have a new truck and a Mega cab sure would be nice. But I can throw a lot of parts at mine (or do a Ford conversion) for a fraction of that money.

I had my old dealership do that to me. They were just trying to move their inventory. They did offer me a pretty penny, but when we started looking at the paperwork, they were going to stick it to me on the back side.

If you want a new truck, go check it out, but just be wary.

You're better off to just buy a new truck outright on the best deal you can find and sell yours privately. The dealers do top dollar for your trade then ask MSRP for the new one. Total bait and switch.

I'm actually going to the dealership tomorrow to do the same thing maybe. I have 13k Into my 08 hemi and they offered me 18.5k difference on a 07 Laramie with 70,000 km but with taxes it's 20k. I had 17k all in in my head and that to me is a good deal, well see tomorrow if they will do it, it would mean 30k out the door for a truck all dealers are asking $34-38k for. Their claim was it was basing my trade worst case because so far I've done it all by email and phone, with about 5 dealers so I get the best price. I want to trade my truck in because it has some issues and would cost easily 1k to fix, not worth it to me to fix and sell private. The deal they offered you is bs. But really your truck is probably only worth 13k on a good day. But that truck is really overpriced to. I simply told them the only number I want to know is difference nothing else matters.

Be carefull what you are paying on the new truck, and tell them to get rid of the added fees they soak you with.

What dealership are you buying from?

Go in and find a truck you like. Negotiate the price to rock bottom and then tell them you are trading yours. They will try to back peddle but you might get them. Obviously you will always get the most selling your truck privately.

Sounds like a lure to get you into the dealership and buy a new truck. Think about it, what company wants a 5 year old truck with 300K on it?

It is cheaper to run a 03-06 3rd gen then it is a emissions one.
