Computer Help

Ok, I've got a linksys wireless router. Used to work fine, but I haven't used it in a couple months (it was at the old residence). Anyway, I grabbed it when I came to Edmonton, plugged it in. I can connect to it, I get excellent signal, but I get absolutely no internet. I'm stealling signal from some other house. Anway, I have absolutely no idea where to start troubleshooting this thing. All my interest in computers went out the window once I turned 16.

I don't know Tate. Check for patches, or updates first. Then if that don't work try to keep stealing it I guess

Thanks Kev, take your time. I know there are more important things right now.

My cousin is also not able to get internet when I hook up the wireless router to his desktop. Once he plugs it back into the modem, all is well. I'm wondering if its locked up, or just junk now. Oh well.

He's on Shaw, I think he has the High Speed Lite, not the full one.

Edit: I notice when I connect to my own network, it says Local Only, whereas when I connect to the neighbours, its Local and Internet. Hmm.

I just bought a linksys router. Do you still have the install disk? Seems like you have to get the encryption key set between the router and the modem to work and the software somehow sets that. There might be a download on the linksys site.

My Dlink started acting funny even after multiple upgrades to the firmware, got Internet, but no email connection. Then it would bump you off at will. Now in the junk box and this linksys works fine.

I'll have to wait to give you a call, working nightshift, probably have a day off somewhere around the 24-28 day mark.

Jason, I still do have the disk, and I packed it with me. I checked their website, and I should have the current firmware. I bought this thing around September, and the Firmware is from around Jan of 07.

Tate, with my wireless router, I have to unplug it every so often and let it do a reset. I know when it's time as my wireless will be so slow and sometimes dissapear totally. I'm sure you tried that already but it works on mine..

It was unplugged a couple times, and I hit the reset on the router as well. I may try reinstalling the software on my comp tomorrow to see if that helps. At home, my sister always had issues using her laptop with it, but it always seemed to work when I had my computer there.
