Cell phones and driving

As of Jan 01/2010,Saskatchewan has joining other provinces to have cell phones/texting banned while the vehicle is in motion, unless its a hands free .Do you think Alberta should do the same?

Yes, but vehicles with commercial plates should be exempt.

No way. if your behind the wheel and driving. focus should be on the road. and hands on the wheel.

I believe that the blue tooth handsfree headsets are legal though. any hands Free device should be OK.

texting while driving, thats just stupid.

What about our drivers all with Mike phones, constantly recieving pickups and deliveries/instructions. We have not found a decent handsfree to work efficiently with our mike phones.

While I don't agree with driving while talking, I don't agree with an outright ban. When I get a call on the road, I make it as short as possible. But I don't really want to pull off the highway to take a 30 sec. call. Some common sense needs to be used, instead of just out right bans.

I think just texting while driving should be against the law. To me there is a big differance between talking vrs reading while driving.

thats what I mean about the phones. not ban them. then ban is anything that takes the use of your hands and attention away from the wheel and the road.

thats the point of the hands free systems in vehicles.

No way commercial plates should be exempt, tremendous liabilty for anyone they are working for, most companies already have a corporate ban written into the employment terms. Big rigs are really bad, i see guys driving and shifting with the left hand and talking on the phone with the right all the time.

Why I asked this question, because I almost got side swipped on 14 street by some goof in a BMW....speeding like hell on icey roads talking on his cell phone.Made a lane change without no signal or even checking if anyone was in the other lane...This is not the first call I've had with someone talking on their phone...And I don't drive much..I sure wouldn't want to be you guys that drive on a daily basis...

Since the law came into effect I have seen several folks over here still talking on their phones. I past an RCMP doing 80 in a 100 zone that had his phone in left hand stuck to hishead and his radio mic in the other...I guess he was driving with his? Watched a cabbie roll through a red light into an intersection texting yesterday.

Eating a BigMac is just as dangerous IMO. While it seems like a good idea the thought of another ban from the government, not so much.
