not looking to buy or sell here . . . . .

just seeing if anyone has a mech. fuel pressure gauge i could borrow for a test, or perhaps a gauge used for single tests . . .

reason: just finished installing the MITUSA pump and my fp readings are not where they should be at according to Opie. he would like me to test with another gauge prior to jumping to any conclusions or sending out additional parts.

anyone able to help me out and spend a few minutes testing some fp readings against my current gauge?

i am working in cochrane tomorrow (thursday morn). i'll be getting off at 800 am friday morning. it looks like (so far) that i will be free friday, and possibly for a couple hours on saturday afternoon.

 

Jason, don't you have a mechanical guage already measuring fuel pressure? If you don't I would get one for permanent monitoring.

I can't remember which year of 24v you have. The never 01/02 have a schrader valve on the injection pump. the 01 has a schrader on the fuel pump. I would be interested in seeing how much fuel pressure drop you get across the stock fuel filter unit? The pre 01, have two plugs on top of the fuel canister for measuring fuel pressure. Keep us in the loop on what you find out.

 

Mopac in Calgary has a ton of various liquid filled permanent mount fuel pressure gauges for less than $50.
1/8 NPT, 1 1/2 inch face gauges. Various ranges but 0-15 or 0-30psi would be best.

Perhaps just cruise over there & pick one up. You will always have a need for a gauge like that.

hey guys,

yes, i do have a FP gauge. it is maechanical and it reads right off the vp44 inlet and then straight to the gauge with only a needle valve to pass thru. the problem is, i am seeing pressures lower than i should be with the new mitusa.

i contacted opie about the pressures i am seeing and he agrees the readings are low. he would like me to verify those readings with a different gauge/sender/port to try and troubleshoot to see if it is a problem with something in the system, or simply a problem with the gauge/sender.

does that clear things up . . . ?

 

even though the pressure readings are low compared to what they should be, it is still much better than what i was seeing on the stock pump.

 

I follow you Jason. I was just suggesting to zip over the Mopac to pick up another gauge to verify your current gauge...

I wonder if that is the issue? What pressure is the regulator set at? Is the regulator on the suction side (from the tank) or on the return line from the mitusa pump? Is your add on fuel filter on the suction side of the mitusa pump? Sorry for all the questions.

 

Only 98 and 99 have the two plugs on the filter canister. The 2k and newer have the spin top on it. My 12v doesn't even have the two plugs on it, although the canister is identicle otherwise to my 24v.

the regulator is set at 16 psi. it is on the positive side of the pump.
the add on filter is also on the positive side.
quaestions are fine, i don't mind at all.

thanx for the info. it sounds like luke can set me up with what i need just to do the test this once. if i find i have to do something like this down the road again i would definately look at those gauges for < $50.
