Hi everyone

I am new to this site. I finally found one In canada and alberta to boot !! I am looking to get an Areo Turbine 404XL installed ..They are hard to find in Calgary, but I managed to find a vender that is just starting to carry them "Calgary Muffler" I talked with the owner about puttin one on my CTD and he figured it wouldn't be a great idea. He told me a "superZ" would be better for this application. Fro what I have heard from others on the forums they really like the Aero !! He also mentioned that the OEM muffler is an offset muffler (which it is) and the Aero is a strait through. He figured it would be a bit tough to install the Aero in the same spot. I would like to know from other that have the Aero.. first where did oyu get it from.. how much and how did they install it? Where are the hangers? Also how do you like the results? MPG's sound...performance? I woudl like to keep the sound levels down .. as close to stock as possible.

I know of Calgary muffler, I know they do good work as far exhaust systems go.

 

It's going on a 06 Mega cab Diesel cummins 5.9 H.O.
The Mega cab has a OEM resonator and 4" pipe.. so the 4040xl should fit right in ther where the exist muffler was, they will have to add pipe the make up the difference, and I thought the hanger could go on the added pipe.

Any thoughts?

 

Calgary Muffler at Mcleod and 58ave is a very good shop.

I too considered the Aero Turbine but in my opinion they are too pricey.

I installed the MBRP straight thru muffler replacement kit instead. It doesn't sound too bad with the catalytic in place. I do not recommend dumping the cat if you were thinking of that.

When my cat fell off (MBRP muffler still in place), the truck got way too loud and not a good loud. My Mustang is loud and it sounds good..
My truck sounds like a tractor which is not for me and expecially not for my wife...

I have a remote mount BD exhaust brake to install, so when I install that I plan to reinstall my catalytic converter..

I am curious how your truck will sound. If you want to compare, let me know and we could meet at a Tim' Horton's or something similar..

i just installed three of the aero 4040xl's i bought them from pauleys diesel along with the pipe needed to replace the offset all bolt up even has hangars i also bought three pieces of straight pipe at the same time. the aero has a nice sound to them not to loud with just muffler

I have read about an exhaust guide made similar to the TAG that is supposed to reduce drone and help out the Aeroturbine muffler. If it works as well as my TAG did, I would give it a shot instead of the CAT..

Hmm, that sounds like the ticket. $90 isn't all that bad either. Depending on the size of my turbo outlet, I may pick that up and give it a shot.

 

I have read that the Aero Turine even the 4040XL has a loud drone when towing, does the exhaust guide eliminate the drone when towing, is the noise in the cab acceptable and close to stock. When did you mount them? Also read on the down pipe is the best place.

 

I only have the intake TAG installed not the exhaust system filter. Call Bryan at DDP and talk to him about it as he has many customers using the exhaust guide with good results.

 

Just thought I would make an update On the Aero. I am going to get one installed at Calgary muffler. The owner says he has good success with them now on the Diesels (go figure) and can't keep them in stock. I guess people already knew this was a good muffler.. just needed some one to buy stock in it. If you are looking to get one installed these are a great muffler!! Also this is probably one of the better shops in town to get it installed. I does pay to take a chance on a new product.. I find that calgary dealers are to scared to sell anything but what the others are selling .. AFE for one seems to be the only brand name !! there are others out there !! There are so many products offered in the states that would do well up here !!

 

It's been a year since you said you were going for the Aero 4040 XL muffler treatment. Were you happy with the final outcome? Is there any drone in the cab? Did you leave the cat on or change anything else? It was this thread that helped me find this forum because of my interest in this muffler. Have you noticed any mileage or performance improvements at all?

I was hoping he was in his waffle square, you know the blank one that I frequent alot especially when my wife asks a question and doesn't get a response for 3 or 4 minutes. Anyway, has anyone installed the Aero 4040xl and experienced drone issues when pulling a load, or seen any peformance improvements.
