2nd gen exhaust manifold
2nd gen exhaust manifold
This is just a heads up,that I may need a 2nd gen exhaust manifold...I'm helping a guy out with his 1990 12V..He got a HX-35 and I guess the exhaust manifold is different on the 1990.The 2nd gen manifold should bolt up to the head,so that he could use this HX-35?If so does anyone have a spare that we could buy?
I have a 02 24V, a 98 12v manifold and a VE engine exhaust manifolds available. Just a quick look at the two 12v manifold, they look the same to me. The exhaust ports are different between the 12v and 24v. My HX-35 fit on the VE manifold, same goes for my GT35
The HX-35 came off the 98-12v

I put my HX35 on a 92. As far as I know, all the manifolds have the standard flange for the Holset be it an H1 or HX. The down pipe is the tricky part, but you can get the stock pipe to fit right up to it.
Was told once the 01's and 02's had stronger manifolds. Different metalury to reduce problems with cracks in previous yrs.
I can't prove it but haven't read of any having problems in these later yrs!

...Dan just got back to me....It wasn't the fit on the manifold, its the oil lines don't match up....I totaly forgot that even with rebuilt turbo you have to loosen the 4 to 6 bolts and rotate the turbo for the oil lines to match up....I emailed him this information...How quick I forget the basics...
When he contacted me, it was the tilt of the turbo on the manifold....I could mention to him to install long lines if he still has problems...I just don't know enough of the 1st gen....
What year HX35 is he putting on? The 12v HX's used a male thread on the oil line, the 24v's used a female thread on the oil line. Lenght should be the same, as the turbos are still in the same location. He may have to clock the bearing housing, as the oil drain needs to line up since it isn't a flexible line.
