Paint logevity?

Just wondering how the paint holds up on these trucks.

Tell me your favorite color and why?

i was in the dealership and was looking at the Mineral Gray trucks. I put my hand on them during the sun shinning and it was very hot to the touch. Couldn't even keep my hand there. Then i went over to the white ones and It was only slightly warm. I wonder if the high temps cook the paint? What do you think.

I know there was a lot of issues with the early second gens and paint fading/peeling issues.

I have not seen very many third gens with that issue.

I have the mineral gray and live in the part of hell that has the sauna..... aka South Louisiana, and have had no paint issues. My lil bro has an '03 1500 which has been down here its entire life, and never garage kept. No issues. Its mineral gray also. I dont believe there are many paint issues with the new models. At least down here. Up in the snowy/salty areas it may be different. But I dont see how our hot and humid climate could be much worse.

I had a '06 1500 in white. It was great as far as staying cooler and cleaning. A quick pass at the car wash and it looked good. A hand washing and it looked like it was bleached. I like the mineral gray just because. Looks good on a truck.

Related, back on Mar 11th there was a bulletin put out about new rust spots showing up on some of the 2010 1500's. Some 2009's also but only very little.

I've already had a customer call in with his bumper on his 3500 with the same problem.

TECH-TIPS # 9 – 2010 DS TRUCKS / RUST SPOTS ON FRONT CHROME BUMPERS

The Dealer Technical Support Hotline has recently received several inquires regarding rust spots on 2010 DS front bumpers. We've also noted this concern on 2009 DS but to a lesser extent. The concern has been reported to Engineering and Quality Control and they are investigating the issue with the supplier. Further details will be provided after Engineering completes their investigation.

I'm waiting for the next communication about if there is a better solution. So far they suggest just cleaning the bumper with Mopar Chrome Cleaner (p/n 04318013) and applying a good coat of wax to the chrome surface.

Just a FYI if anyone is getting the same.

Just curious.

They do polish out but come back. I understnad with this severe winter we have had, more salt and rocks, but cmon. my last truck had 6 years of winters with no rust.

Thanks DJ

Gonna have to let Roger know to keep an eye on his. No salted roads down here, but his truck spends a lot of time right next to the Gulf and everything is salty down there.

We have a 03 2500 with Mineral Gray still occasionally used around the dealership for hauling oil barrels or other items between our two stores. I think its doing well. Around a dent or two.... I can't remember but there might be that sealer starting to crack and lift. It lifts but doesn't peel. Like it gets fogged underneath the sealer layer. Maybe I'm just remembering it wrong.

I do know I have rust on a 03 G.Caravan. Bright Silver. Around the lift-gate area.

I gave my 2010 a good cleaning yesterday and shined up the bumper with a little glass cleaner and didnt see and spots. I guess I got a good one or could be that there is no salt around here. then again my truck sits at the beach every other week and there is plenty of salt around there so I will just keep an eye on it.

The chrome on my 05 seems ok, but I see the backside of the bumper is rusting. keeping it oiled, and an eye on it.

That is interesting about the rust spots on the bumper. On the few newer Chevys I've been around, '09 and '10, the bumpers are almost covered in rust spots, and these were trucks with less the 10k miles. One of the '07 Fords we had was just about as bad too.

My 08 in mineral gray is just fine, other than the Walmart door dings and normal work truck boo boos. Chrome is doing good too.
