Hello
I finally made the switch from gas to Diesel. I just bought a 2011 2500 hd cummins. Completely different power feeling. feels like its just pulling all the time. I can feel the difference in torque.
I have 2 questions for everyone.
1) how long do you let your truck run before you drive away when you first start it?
2) do i have to let the engine idle for a bit before I shut it off after going for a ride
In all the forums I've read people are stating not to let these new 6.7's idle much.

I run 5w40 full synthetic oil after a very short break in. I have always driven off immediately even in the winter with my 2001 and will do the same with the 2011. I do let the truck idle for a couple of three minutes to cool down the EGT's only after towing heavy as I don't yet have an EGT gauge on the 2011 but I only have around 6000km with just about all of it towing. I plan on switching the PS fluid along with the axles to synthetic, I found it made a huge difference in the winter on my 2001. My son idled his 2011 6,7 lots as he works in the oil patch he also runs synthetic oil and has seen no ill effects.
I think you do the deletes or not run extended oil change intervals, either way keep an eye on your oil quantity to ensure it's not making oil. I'm still getting used to it but I do love the 2011..

Welcome aboard!!! As was said, warm up time is not so critical as the new age of diesels have taken over. The cool down time is more of an issue when you put the engine to work. A good couple minutes of cool down before fueling or shutting down for dinner is a good idea to keep it alive longer.
Good oil, good fuel and some TLC will have a truck that's reliable for a very long time.
Hope you can make it out to a GTG with our Alberta Chapter. Check out the ABDTR#5 area and see if we are getting together near you.
