Mopar winch install???

One of the things I ordered added to my new truck was the warn winch that is standard equipment on the "Power Wagon". I've gotten stuck in my yard a couple times over the past year and having a winch would have made a great difference getting out. This is not availible on the Laramie except as a Mopar addon, which is how I'm ordering it.

Looking at the advertising photos of the power Wagon, I don't see a fairlead head on the winch and I wonder where the controls are mounted on the dash?

Is the wench center mounted in the frame or is it mounted on thr right where the photos show the cable end flag? Does anybody have this setup and how's it work? Any problems?

Spelling corrected. Sorry. Since I can't type with my hands, I use a voice to text device (like dragon software). One on it's limitations is usage and spelling if I don't speak plainly enough. Right now I have the flu, so my voice is messed up.

One more reason to hate being a quadraplegic.

To the software a wench and a winch are the same thing - unless you are a wench.

Why won't it mount on a diesel? Is there something in the way?

Yes there is something in the way that prevents the winch from mounting closer to the engine and that is why the aftermarket winch bumpers for a diesel extend out from the front of the truck.

It might be the larger radiator for the diesel that extends down lower, not 100% sure what it is. That's the reason they won't offer a diesel power wagon.

My buddy has a 07 and we looked at doing the same thing and it won't mount behind the bumper because of all the coolers mounted there on the diesel.

As others have stated the intercooler takes up the same real estate that the OEM winch would take up.

You can get a winch bumper, or a front receiver and a multi-mount winch.

I've on the phone with the salesman and he finnaly confirmed that the winch will not fit. (as you all told me several days ago)

I think I'll go with the front receiver and the multi-mount. I'm researching the options now. I don't like the huge replacment bumpers - they look like the cow catchers on a old time steam locomotive. Or something from Mad Max -

Anybody have any input?

I like the big bumpers. Besides, big bumpers equals less body damage. I will be mounting a front receiver on my truck, for the winch.

I have the Draw Tite on mine. It mounts the receiver tube below the crossmember so the winch sits a little lower than it needs to. My dad has the Warn and it mounts the winch higher, but looks to have weaker hardware and mounts (thou probably not a big deal, as Warn knows winches and the associated loads). I had my Draw Tite modified to put the receiver in the cross tube and it raised the winch nicely and is now overbuilt in the center section.

Curt also makes one that appears idential to the Warn.

As long as the bumper isn't stronger than the frame.

How much weight is your winch rated for?? I was thinking 12.5k then I discovered that the one I was looking at weighs 150 pounds! Too much for me to put on and take off.

I have a 9K lb winch, which is all the receivers are rated for.

A 9K might be a little small for being really stuck, but it has worked well for me so far. My dad's truck was pretty stuck this year and the 9K had no issues pulling him out (06 QC LB).

What is a quadraplegic doing driving, anyway?
