lug nut issue
lug nut issue
On 2012, 2500.....When rotating tires, and following torque specs per manual, it seems like the lug threads are rolling over so that they can't be removed or replaced without the impact. I start them by hand, but can only get a couple turns before tight. Talked to the dealer, and they hadn't heard of or had this issue. Bought a new set of oem nuts today, put them on to 120 ftlbs, went to take one off and have the same issue. Any ideas or aftermarkets that would actually work. Manual and dealer say they're 14 x 1.5 thread.

140 ft. lbs on 2500 Ram trucks, studs may need to be replaced if threads have been damaged by over tightening and damaging the new nuts. Not using a torque stick and just impact gun will damage the wheel studs everytime. Most impact guns will over tighten the lug nuts way pass the recomended torque spec. I run across this problem often when rotating tires. Often the nut will get so hot when removing that you cannot hold them in your hands without gloves on. I often see metal particles breaking away from the lug nuts and studs as I remove them. If the nuts do not start and turn by hand I replace them. Never use anti-seize or oil on studs, they must always be dry without any lubrication.
