Just bought a 2017, with no fuel cap..WTH?
So I just replaced my 2006 with a 2017 and it appears they don't come with a fuel cap. Ok, I get that with emissions etc it doesn't need one, but it appears that there's plenty of opportunity for dust/road grime/etc to accumulate and then get forced into the tank when you put the nozzle in.
Is everyone putting on a cap on anyway, and if so which do you recommend? I see there's a mopar one 82214609. Does this fit the 17's? Thanks all and Happy New Year, fatpete new signature coming--- 2017 2500 SLT Big Horn 4x4 Crew Cab Off Road- White |
Here you go. I think you may want to get both the DEF cap and diesel fuel cap

waiting for mine to come in from Genos right now

I just can't fathom why they wouldn't come with them, sheesh...
|
Still have the shipping cap on mine. The large gasket on the fuel door is supposed to keep crap out, but I dont see it being as effective as a regular cap.
|
I put the 82214609 on ands it works fine and eliminates the "helper middleman".
|
Same as Daytrepper here, still using the little plastic shipping cap on mine.
|
I to use the plastic red cap the truck came with. If you drive gravel roads I wouldn't go without a cap.
|
Thanks guys. Bought the mopar one and it works great.

I guess the second flapper is why you have to push the diesel fuel pump nozzle all the way in, or it just shuts off when re-fueling. |
buddy bought a "work" truck with 30k on it.
OH MY, the inside of the gas cap area was FILTHY. it looked like they had been mixing concrete in there. and of course, they had lost the red cap. |
This is what I bought as a fuel cap.

do you need to drill a small hole in it for ventilation, otherwise as fuel is being used you would create a vacuum??
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.die...39650831cf.jpg I suppose you could add one to the Home Depot one for cheap if wanted. I just put it on the side rails when I fill and haven't forgotten it yet, but for $3.50 it wouldn't be terrible if I did. LOL. I've been running the Home Depot one now for about a year and half and 25-30 thousand miles with nary an hiccup! |
Ordered one of the green caps from Amazon...$10.95. Kinda cheap of Ram honestly to not put a cap of some sort
