Finally pulled the trigger- bought a 4th gen

2011 Flame Red Crew Cab Short bed 4x4 SLT 6.7 auto. Confession- It has 8k miles on it. I could've got a brand new one just like it (but black- not sure if it was an H.O.) for just a couple of thou more but this truck just "felt" right for some reason. Anyway...

Likes (compared to my '03):
  • Smooth ride
  • The crew cab
  • Interior upgrades
  • 6-speed tranny

Dislikes (compared to my '03):
  • Lack of Throttle response- What The Heck Were They Thinking???
  • Brake response- they feel kinda' weak, and my '03 has the original pads with 100k on 'em.
  • I have a payment again

So, what do I do about the poor throttle response? It drives like a gasser.

I'd post a picture but it's 100% stock- nothing to really look at (yet).

Hook a big, heavy trailer to it and pull it a 1000 miles. Everything gets better! O)

Mine seems to run stronger every time we tow somewhere. I'm at 8700 miles now and the grin is still there.

FWIW - I'd change the oil if it's black - suggested change is 7500 miles (sure), but did they do it? I'd be safe.

The payment thing sucks don't it? Hope you got a great deal!

Best Wishes, Larry

Thanks, and good call on the oil. The dealer I bought it from (previous owner traded up to a Laramie) did the oil change at 7500 according to the little sticker on the window, but I'll definitely check the color.

I lied, it does have one accessory- a BW hide-a-ball, so they must've towed, or intended to tow heavy with it. Speaking of which, I'm also looking forward to trying out the integrated trailer brake and exhaust brake, as well as this supposedly sweet 6-speed tranny (better and the 47RE anyway).

As far as what I paid- long story. A volume dealer in Salt Lake had a special going for ~$10k off sticker this past week, a price even Dave Smith couldn't match at the time (I gave them a chance, they said they couldn't do it). I used that to beat this local dealer down on the price of this used one. They didn't budge much, like I said- on paper I should've gone with the new truck for just $2k more- but it's like choosing puppies, sometimes you pick the one that comes over and piddles on your foot.

Maybe it's the color, I dunno. Reminds me of my old one. My wife doesn't know I bought it yet. When I get home tonight I'll just say "What? I washed it, that's all- honest!"

DPF is likely clogged up, which is why it's lacking throttle response. As mentioned above, tow it like it's 1984.

congrads on your purchase.....imo it drives the exact same with a load on the back...wish throttle response was better, but it is built to tow.... if I could have ordered one, I would have gotten 3.42 in mine, and a slt too...but I got what was available in the color that I liked...
