Death Wobble causing Friend to go back to GM
Death Wobble causing Friend to go back to GM
A good friend of mine bought a 2010 or 11 2500 4 door shortbed Laramie and a few times has had death wobble to the point he took it back tossed them the keys and said keep it.
I was surprised as I haven't read about it on the 4th gens, but I saw it happen as i was behind him and he was towing a 20' enclosed trailer with ATV's inside. He took it back and the track bar was loose and then within 1000 miles it happened again and almost took him out completely. Just an empty truck.
It is a shame they have this issues still. I don't know exactly what causes it but my 2004 has never had it happen (knock on wood). His truck is nice, all stock except for the APS swing up steps and I feel bad that at 9k he has this type of issue. To me someone should be tar'ed and feathered for letting this happen.
We lost a Dodge customer because of steering issues, but other than that he loves the truck. I am sure the Duramaxes have their issues as well, but steering is more than just an annoyance it is a safety issue.
If anyone is interested in a green / tan Laramie with 9k on the clock let me know... I told him to have them buy it back, but not sure he wants to fight the lawyers.

I think it is the same situation here, I just don't understand why they don't get it right he first time. The price of the GMC Denali pick ups may deter him, but it scared the begeesus out of him.
We will see.

I have been lucky. I have never experienced the DW on either my 08 or my 11.
Tell your buddy I hate that he is having trouble, but not all of the are this way.

All stock with stock tires...
It is a shame and I hope they convince him otherwise, but they would have to convince me too after it happening 1000 miles after they "fixed" it.
Assuming the cause is a quick hole in the road that gets one tire to wiggle and then as they build engergy they just pass it back and forth as the tires flex? Never had it on my 04 either and only once or twice on my 96, but that was suspension kit related...

If the truck is bone stock, something is not right. Checking out the front end will probably find something. Many threads with long lists of things to check can be found. I would say it would be a good truck to pick up at fire sale price.
We will see... I told him if he is serious have them buy it back, but that may be too much of a hassle.
He has money and time but it still may go for a good price. They took a bunch off the sticker so he got a great deal to start with.

I've had 7 of these trucks and have never had it (lucky I guess). Had it once in a jeep though and I can tell you if it's never happened to you and you're going 60mph when it happens you'll need to change your shorts!
