Cab storage
Hello guys, I just bought a 2011 3500 Mega Cab. Behind the rear seats are two storage doors. The one on the drivers side is empty, but the one on the passenger side has a plastic insert. What does that insert cover? I'm a little disappointed in the storage area, no place for jumper cables, tie downs, or tow straps.

What are you talkinng about? Mega has storage behind the seats, under the seats, in the floor board under the floor mats in the rear and tons of storage in the center consol.

No in floor storage, and anything under the seat slides out from under it every time I stop. Not impressed with the storage. Maybe I should have look at one wit in floor storage. My 2005 Dodge had better storage. I'm going to the dealer to see why 2/3 of my behind storage has a plastic insert.

I had an 06 mega cab and that storage compartment behind the back seats was completely open.
My 10 mega cab has what is mentioned above. The compartment behind the passenger rear seat has a black plastic cover, thus losing alot of the stoarge back there.
My dealer said that the powered amp for the sound system is under there, never removed it to confirm. But I miss the space.

I don't have a mega but I know what you mean...the amp and bass speaker take up half the storage (sounds good but dam they could have put it behind the seat instead of under it).

I believe thats where your amp and speaker are located. Especially since you have the laramie. Thats an option on non laramies and what my 11 has but standard on laramies. I also thought they coulda put a little extra engineering time on that one myself. They shouda put the sub in the middle and leave bins on each side under the seat.

Went to the dealer today, they didn't know what it was either. So the tech took the cover off. Yep, it was the amp for the stereo. What a bad place for it. I lost 2/3 of the storage back there. So i bought a storage box for under the seat. I used velcro to keep it from sliding out every time I stop.

I think I can... I think...
I think the Laramie package loses the back floorboard storage. That massive console covers it up??? I think anyway. I asked about that right after I got my truck.
Maybe someone else can confirm that.
Maybe we need a console mod, floor storage access thread to go along with New2Diesel's "Amp/Sub 4th Gen relocation" thread???

You get a little more space if you do the rear seat retaining clip mod that lets you tilt the rear seats forward. Search for it and it's easy to do. Remove the rear seats, cut off about 1/2" from the end of the metal sliding retaining tab and, viola! Nice to put small items back there....
