Anyone denied warranty coverage due to over sized tires ?

Went to my tire guy and said I wanted to price up some 285 and 315 size tires for my truck on the stock 17" rims. I have stock 265 BFG Rugged trail's now.

He said that my dealer would not like that upgrade. Said that the ABS, shift points, etc are tied to the stock size and they could deny warranty coverage due to the increase in size if there was a problem with those systems. Who knows, maybe the GPS in the Nav system is tied to the stock size tires as well.

I searched it here and could not find anything.

Anyone have any experience with this problem or is he just CYA and a little paranoid ?

Actually Don Thuron suggested going up in size in addition to Fox shocks, rear leaf spring mod and a new front track bar to get the best ride possible over stock. My goal is to get the best road ride possible without a lift.

Thanks

They might not warranty stuff if it's affected by your bigger tires like if the balljoints go out or if you get real big tires and you burn up the transmission etc.

I got 22.5's on mine and havent had any issues so far. The way I look at it if they can put big tires on a Power Wagon and still honor warranty then shouldnt matter on your truck. Even with my 22.5's all i had to do is recalibrate my speedo with my H&S programmer and Im good to go.

I just had a steering gear box done under warranty and I'm running BFG TA-KO 285-70/17's on my '06.

Sounds like you've got an awesome tire guy that's watching out for you ..... not very many people like that left in the world.

No issues at all, Every truck I ever had I lifted and put biger tires on. The GPS is NOT tied to the tire size, It does not read MPH from the sats it just reads the same as the speedo. I don't get that one but it's ture.

Thanks for the responses. I have been going to this tire shop for years but this is the first time I was asking for anything other than OEM size.

Whne going bigger on stock rims, say 33 or 35", did anyone notice a ride improvement over small bumps due to a taller sidewall ? Don Thuren says I will notice an improvement.

Thanks

Yes, the ride will be nicer on the small and medium bumps, just watch the bigger ones.

Check out MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY ACT

They cannot deny you warranty unless they can prove that what you did caused the problem.

HIs springs ride super nice. I've been running Toyo 285-75-17's for years now. They're a good compromise. Try 55 psi in the front and 40 psi in the rear unladen. The load capacity is way up there.
