2011 3500 Laramie Overhead Console
2011 3500 Laramie Overhead Console
I've done the search thing, but can't find specific help on removing the overhead console on a 2011 3500 Laramie (w/ homelink, sunroof & sliding rear window switches and map lights). I'm assuming that it's held in with spring clips as I've read about with other 4th gen models , but don't want to risk breaking it if I'm wrong.
I'd appreciate input from anyone who's done the deed.
Thanks.

1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Using your fingertips, grasp the sides of the overhead console and pull straight down evenly to disengage the four snap clips.
3. Lower the overhead console from the headliner far enough to access the wire harness connectors.
4. Disconnect the reading lamp wire harness connector (1).
5. Disconnect the sunroof switch wire harness connector, if equipped.
6. Disconnect the inferred temperature sensor wire harness connector (4), if equipped.
7. Disconnect the power sliding glass wire harness connector (2), if equipped.
8. Disconnect the Homelink® transceiver wire harness connector (3), if equipped.
9. Remove the overhead console from the vehicle.

Interesting. I was just pondering this. I need a spot to mount my hat holder and probably gonna fab up a lil something when I get home.
Thanks Chris

OK - back for more help. The panel came down as advertised (4 spring clips and 2 "hooks" at the front edge that lip over the ceiling panel) but I'm stuck at " Lower the overhead console from the headliner far enough to access the wire harness connectors". The panel only drops about 3-4 inches due to the wiring harnesses; not near enough space to get my ham hands in there to disconnect things. Is there a trick to getting it lower or do I just have to find someone with smaller hands?
And, on a related note for those who have gone the hard wire radar detector route, did you find a usable ground point or just tap into an existing black (ground) wire?

smaller hands of a pair of needle nose pliers to release the retention clip on the wiring connector. get a meter and make sure that the "black" wire is ground before tapping into it. better safe than sorry

And not to worry - I hit every wire I think about using with a multimeter.
