Angry 2010 Rusting ??? WTH

Washed my 6 month old 2010 today and found that the tailgate, lower bed sides, rockers, and doors are speckeled with rust. NOT GOOD. Any thoughts on what Chrysler will do about this? I'm not sure I'd be willing to settle for a paint repair because there is no telling how it is under the paint.

I have heard that light color vehicle can get this if they are hauled by rail car, its from the rail car wheels. Not sure how they fix it, but have seen it before.

That makes sense, but what don't make sense is it wasn't there 3 months ago. Truck hasn't seen salt from snow covered roads, only seen rain.

THAT IS 100% COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. MFR covers surface rust for 5 years!!

Go get it fixed as soon as you can so it does not get worse.

Hope all goes well.

It's everywhere, every panel except the cab itself. I will be going to the dealership first thing tomorrow because it needs to addressed. I love the truck, but what concerns me is the fact that it's rusting through the paint. And of course that raises other questions....

....What condition is the sheet metal in under the paint? and will they repair it correctly. I don't care for total repaints because they never look as they do from the dealership. Especially if they have to take it to the metal to properly repair it. Then there is the worry about whether or not the repaint is being done properly. With my luck 5 years down the road it's going to reappear and I'll no longer be covered. Just a bad situation all around I think.

Think there's any chance of them buying it back so I can get a new one?

Probably not immediately. I believe the warranty requires you to give them a shot at fixing the problem. Maybe a lot of return visits DOCUMENTED and you can work on the lemon law. Look for drips, runs, orange peel, anything that is not perfect after the repair. On the bright side, maybe you can choose a superior paint shop and change the color to something NOT stock!

In 05 they had same problem, had something to do
with primer. They knew they had a problem and
repainted them.

Well I find it hard to believe it's rail dust. The truck was washed and waxed in the fall. I took some compound to a couple areas and the majority is gone but you can still see a small speck which I'm certain will return if left alone.

I've clayed many vehicles also, but tell me what a clay bar is going to do long term??? Exactly, not a thing.

If it truely is rail dust it will take it off and it will not rust again as the contaminates are removed. If it is from under the paint then it will still be there and you can complain to the dealer. If it came off with compound, more then likely it is metal dust from an external surface, no rust from the parent metal.

How would rail dust show up 7 months after I bought it? The truck was washed and waxed 2 months ago, and then again today when it was noticed. The compound took the majority off, but there is still a speck that remains at the center of the rust.
