Regen is a shorterned term for the regeneration of the Diesel Particulate Filter system on the 6.7 Cummins.

The short and sweet explanation, the DPF catches excess soot from the exhaust and stores it. Once it reaches a predetermined capacity, diesel is injected into the exhaust stream, which then raises the exhaust temperature and completely combusting the stored soot until no more remains.

This is in a theoretically perfectly functioning unit.

Imagine having leftover charcoal in a BBQ pit after cooking. You want to get rid of the coals so you take an oxygen line and shoot it in there. Wouldnt take long before all the coals are completely burnt out into a bit of dust.....
