the places I travel, there are some fuel stops that know you either can make it to the next or they got ya. With this, I can pass them up and choose where to get fuel. Got it mounted today and plumbed and the fuel sender installed. Still need to order a gauge. works great. will post pics tomorrow. still need to do a final bolt down but will have to wait til I get fuel out of it to move it 1/4" back so it does not rub the headache rack any. it has turnbuckles that hold it in now that are attached to the corner tie down rings and the top of the tank but it pulls the tank too far forward. that is how I got it so went with it for now til I can get a hand to hold the wrench up top while I am under the truck tightening the stainless hardware.
Just my 2 cents, but the DOT regulations apply to hauling as cargo for hire. So if it is part of your fuel system the statute should not apply. Keep in mind if you are running commercial plates you do need a federal fuel tax id. In Illinois 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are suppose to run D plates which would subject one to said fuel tax issues.

With that kind of range I hope you drilled a hole in the DS floor for the funnel
As far as i know, the Cap of fuel is limited to fuel not being used to FUEL vehicle, as in transporting it. In California anyways. Just my two cents worth. I used to move heavy Gen sets with 2000 gal tanks, hazmat and placard, not a word about the 500 gallons used to move it in the truck.

i do have commercial plates cause Idaho gets ya. GVWR of over 8k and you have to have them. I told the lady the **** truck weighs that without pulling a trailer. i have never been bothered. no company logos or signage on the truck. don't pull for hire etc and just pull my own toys. filled up today for $450 ($3.87 a gallon in Roswell NM). bottom tank was pretty much full and added 116 to the top tank.

. How many miles does your truck have now?
